i need to trick my epson stylus 740 into letting me change the ink cartridge.

a few weeks ago i needed to print something asap but my printer was out of ink, so i lifted the lid of the printer and pressed the little button to load new ink which moved the cartridge slots into view and popped the old cartridge out when i realized that i didn't have a new ink cartridge to install, so i hesitated a moment, stuck the old one back in and flipped the top of the printer back down. the printer thought that i loaded new ink and it started printing again, but weeks later it is REALLY out of ink. it seems that you are only able to load new ink when the printer decides it needs new ink and flashes its little light to tell you to do so.

i was thinking of creating a page full of color and then just running copies of it until it thinks the ink is low again, but that's an awful big waste of time and paper.

does anyone know if i can override it's little low ink sensor?

sigh... thanks if anyone can help!

Hi! I have always been able to change my ink whenever I want on my epson (I have the stylus photo 1280). If one of the cartriges is out, it wont even let me print until I put in a new one. Try just pressing the button you press to change the ink and see if the cartriges slide over (this is what mine does). Also, find your print utilities; you can check the level of the ink, and see how much your printer thinks it has in there. Good luck!
