Fun Jobs?
Permalink Closed

Ok, where to start. I am currently in a full-time job I really hate, and one I've been trying to get out of for the last couple of years.

I have been looking for other work in my field, but can't find any positions. Because of this, I have started freelancing and really like it. I've been freelancing for the last two years. (I'm a graphic designer.) So I've decided I want to start my own business as a freelance designer.

In order to be able to do this, I need a part time job that will allow me to work on my freelance business. My partner has a great job, makes really good money, and we both agree that freelancing is the way to go for me. He would be able to support us financially while I get my business going. But I still want some income of my own.

Long story short, my question is, what would be a great part time job to do while I get my freelance business going? I want to do something fun and exciting. But I don't know what to do. I've considered bartending, just because I think it would be fun to meet new people, and maybe I could make good tips...though I don't have experince and would have to go to bartending school. Eh.

I dunno, do you guys have any advice? No retail please. I currently work for a retail store and hate it.

Here are a few:
-Barista
-Flight attendant
-Fragrance model (it is retail but more fun) or cosmetic sales rep
-Sell on ebay
-Or check craigslist-there are lots of fun temporary marketing jobs (look under "gigs" or "marketing")...you would work as an independent contractor.

Just as a note- I don't know where you live, but most restaurants do not care if you've been to bartending school. Unless you want to work at some crazy club, I wouldn't worry about that. Check out some local pubs, and see if they need barbacks to get you started. If you have waitressing experience and know how to make drinks already, you may just land a bartending job right away. :)

Why don't you try hostessing at a swanky restaurant? Most restaurants have flexible schedules and you meet tons of people.

Everyone I know who has been a barista loved it! The only complaint I heard was sore feet...but if you're behind the counter all day, no one will know if there are crocs on your feet smile.gif
