As a very dedicated Lost fan, I was excited to be finally learning Hurley's story. Now, that I know, I kind of have mixed feelings about it. Like I was supposed to feel really bad for him, but it was just so bizarre. I guess they're still trying to retain the "comic relief" aspect of his character, but the story was highly unbelievable. And what's with the French woman being almost friendly to him, when just weeks ago she tried to kill Sayid? So strange...but I still love Hurley.
Anyway, are they back into reruns next week? What is UP with that?!
I love Hurley! I have been waiting for his episode for weeks. This was one of my favorites of the season. His bad luck, to me anyway, was both very sad and also hilarious, like when he was at his accountant's office and a man just went randomly flying past the window. The stuff with the French woman was different than with Sayid, true -- I think maybe she'd softened slightly because she'd finally had contact with another person recently, and also, Hurley was talking to her about something she knew, that had brought her to disaster, and that obviously she's been dwelling on for 16 years.
Funny aside: now I understand that when Hurley tells Walt he owes him hundreds of thousands of dollars for their backgammon games, or whatever it is they're playing, he could actually pay him if they get off the island!

it seems like whenever they reveal something big they go to reruns -- there are actually going to be 5 weeks of reruns -- so that we can "resee" all of the things we missed the first time around -- conections between the characters or, in this case, all of the times that those numbers appeared in different episodes.
the numbers shown at the end - 4 8 15 16 23 42 - what mara posted about 8 and 15 being part of the flight number as well as kate's safety deposit box is just the beginning... the crazy guy was playing Connect 4... 8 people died in the fire at hurley's box company... 16 weeks that no one had won the lottery, 16 years that the french transmission was being repeated... jack was seated in row 23 on the plane, kate's reward = 23,000... just a few more number "coincidences."

Nooooooooooooooooo!!! I am going to go nuts w/out my LOST fix!
BTW, awesome findings about those other numbers Smash- I love this stuff!!!
Was anyone else hoping that the secret Hurley shared at the end with Charlie would be why he's called Hurley? I just remember that one episode where he says "Hurley's just a nickname I have. Why? I'm not tellin'" and ever since, I've been dying to know. Also, do you think Hurley was a patient at that mental instituation or a former employee? I couldn't tell and I couldn't tell why he'd be there.... he seems so sane.

I loved this episode. It's crazy how all of these numbers are connected. I'm obsessed!!! As far as Hurley being a patient in the mental hospital, I think that he was b/c at one point, he said to someone on the island, "i'm not crazy." I think he may be off his beam and on meds, but what happens when he runs out?? I've heard rumors that one of the charaters is going to go nuts or something. I loooove this show!!!!

It was definitely implied that he used to be a patient there... I can't wait to hear more!!!
