I am (kind of) losing my job...
Permalink Closed

It was announced today that the duties of my department will be moving to another office location 144 miles (one way) from my home. I can either accept a buy out or apply for a position at the other location or apply for a different job at my current building (currently, their are no job postings).

Selling my home right now and moving to the new location isn't an option. And, I don't think commuting 5 hours (total) a day is either.

I'm having a hard time wraping my brain around everything, so anyone who as any input or suggestions is more than welcome to share them, however I was really just coming here to put it in black and white for myself...

Wow. That's a lot. What kind of work do you do? Would it be difficult finding a new job?

well, that sucks.  at least they're offering a buy out.

in michigan's economic climate, you're right about not being able to sell your house.  as far as the job market, be damn glad you got that mba -- it will really set you apart in our state's already incredibly competitive job market.

if I were you, I would get a profile set up on linkedin with your full resume (a lot of good headhunters browse linkedin regularly) as well as accounts on careerbuilder and monster (sign up for their daily job match alerts too.)

you are fortunate that you have a buy out - that will give you some time to look and network.

am I correct that you're in the healthcare industry?

Nope, media.

I am lucky to be offered a buy out and the MBA will really come in handy. I will check out linkedin once I accept the offer. Until then I am going to make over my resume.

I do have one lead on a job that would be 50% more in pay and a lot more responsibility and freedom. And DH has someone putting some feelers out too.

collegegirl, I'm in HR, but I haven't been for too long, so I don't have the 3-5 years that most places want.

Ooh, ouch. Well, onward and upward. When do they expect this to go down?
