has anyone watched this show? i saw one with a girl, i think her name was Ava, and one with a boy.  oh my god, i could not believe how spoiled these kids were.

the ava girl -- sneaking out of the house and then throwing a fit and crying b/c her parents were punishing her by giving her a brand new range rover AFTER her birthday instead of ON  her birthday.

and then the boy. his dad was almost as immature as he was, and they both made themselves look like total asses on the show.

the show is a train wreck -- equally enraging and engaging.

This show is so ridiculous!!! I saw the one with that Ava girl- her party cost $200,000!!! What a spoiled little bitch!! And these stupid kids who throw these parties in hopes that it will make them 'popular.' WTF??? That's insane.

I think the father annoyed me more than the boy. I think hart was his name.  He acted like he was planning a wedding rather than a 16 yr olds party.

Ava annoyed me but no one tops Natalie. She kept on saying how pretty she was (ugh) and wanted to rub in her old friends faces that she was rich.  She even said that she wanted them to go back home and tell everyone how good she's got it.  Whats the story with her anyway? Was she poor before or something?

The craziest part in all this is that these producers really put these shows on to entertain us.  This country is so obsessed with the rich.  I must admit that I have fallen into the trap because I watch religously and to tell the truth these people really aren't that interesting.  I guess we are all just shocked because of how spoiled they are.

My roommate watches this show, but i refuse to watch it. I think it is crazy. The majority of the people who watch it are teenagers, who most likely do not have as much money as these people do. So it makes them jealous. They are producing a show which makes teenagers feel bad about themselves. It is so stupid. These people who are on the show need to be brought back to reality.

I caught part of an episode (the range rover one) and all I can say is WOW. I don't care for reality shows, but at the same time, I enjoy watching it just to laugh at how spoiled and annoying the kids are. I went to high school with people like that range rover girl, and I hated it. I caught part of this Gastineau girl's show the other night, and the daughter wanted an apartments in NYC that cost $10K A MONTH! She and range rover girl should hang out.

BUT, I have known a lot of "rich" kids in my lifetime, and not all of them are spoiled brats; some of the families are extremely down to earth and kind. I think part of me likes this show because it's exposing the lack of parenting/discipline/etc that exists in a lot of rich families; some of the rich parents I have known seem to make up for their poor parenting skills and/or the fact that they are never around by spoiling their kids with material things. I just hope this show doesn't cause people to generalize ALL "rich kids" into the spoiled-rotten category even more so than is done now.

Kel makes a good point about the show causing regular teenagers to feel inadequate. Hopefully instead of wishing that they had $ and nice cars (so they can be "happy"), they'll see what these rich people are REALLY like (shallow, self-centered, mean, etc...) and realize that money can never buy maturity & class.

I would agree with some of what is said- not all "rich" people and kids are spolied brats. My family would fall under the "rich" category and most of my friends and the families I know are not like the ones on the show. I went to one of the "Super Sweet 16" type of party in high school and they were more of a status symbol for the parents then the children.
These people on these shows are the exception- not the norm-at least not in the people I know. As far as lack of parenting I don't think there is anymore a lack of parenting in "rich" familes then this are in middle class or poor familes.

And there is nothing wrong w/ getting a Range Rover as a present!

I actually feel bad for some of the kids featured. I don't think they will ever understand a pure form of happiness.

RyanJ, good point(s). There's nothing wrong with getting a car as a present!!! My family would be considered "rich" too, and I got a new car for xmas. There is absolutely nothing wrong with having money (or not having it either). Some people with money have attitude/maturity/reality problems and some people don't. And I agree with you that bad parenting happens all across the board (rich or poor). I was just saying that with some loaded families, the parents compensate with gifts or by letting their children have/do whatever they want. RyanJ, nice "rich" people like you aren't rare, I guess it's just that the obnoxious, snotty ones get all the attention (ahem...this reality show, Paris, Gastineau Bitches, etc...), so people don't notice the nice ones as much!

i saw the episode with that blonde girl..i think its the latest episode.  Omg she annoyed me so much. I hated the part where her friend who was visitng her says that she got her jewelry from target and this other girl was shocked and responded with...oh i get all mine from Tiffanys.  What a snob!!  And then in the end where the sweet sixteen girl says "ill probably be the most popular girl...thats all i wanted"  really pissed me off.  SO she basically wasted half a million of her fathers  money to buy her popularity?  Come on!  I mean i guess i could understnad.  Shes still pretty young and in high school it seems like thats what some people care about.   But still...it seems so trivial.

Ava annoyed me so much too...i just wanted to smack some sense into her.  She was soooo freaking spoiled and totally took her paretns for granted.  I know its bad...but i love watching these shows.  I get so envious and jealous of them all

my roommate and i caught an episode (the one with the girl who has four shirtless guys carry her into the party for her big "entrance", haha) and i have to say, these are horribly self indulgent people.  but the show was also strangely entertaining- and ever since we saw that episode, we've been imitating her voice.  "mommm, you, like, totally killed my birthday."  so sad and so funny all at the same time....

What in the world do these kids have to look forward to??? Who do these people marry years from now to keep up this lifestyle? I grew up middle class & had to work for my first car, and even though it's ok if your parents can afford it, I consider myself fortunate that my parents taught me a work ethic & truly believe that has helped me in other areas of my life.

This is a WHOLE different issue than getting vehicles for a gift - it is outrageous!!!! What shallow people these parents are creating!!!!

Having said that, this show is like a train wreck.....I can't look away.

I wonder if they will really "see" themselves when they see the show. I hope it is a wake up call to them. If not, perhaps the feedback from the public will be an eye-opening experience. What do you girls think?

I am a little confused about "This is a WHOLE different issue than getting vehicles for a gift - it is outrageous!!!! What shallow people these parents are creating!!!!" what you are trying to say.

I wish they would do a show about the boring "rich" people. I think people get the idea that all people w/ money are like what they see on tv. Although, I don't think that anyone would watch a show about me and my boyfried watching rerun Seinfeld episodes and eating Chinese takeout.... oh how glamourous.

RyanJ - You & some others were saying that there was nothing was wrong with getting a vehicle as a gift. My point was that if your parents can afford it, or are rich, and buy you a vehicle, that is a FAR cry from spending $200,000 to $500,000 on a sweet sixteen party. That is what i meant anyway. That is over the top on any level and they are doing their children an injustice by focusing on the $$$ aspect of life & they all seem to think this party is important to buy their popularity - it's just ridiculous.

Gotcha. I was just a little confused on what the sentence meant. I was not questioning what you meant by the statement because I didn't understand the statement ( I know that made NO sense)

Okay, I must live under a rock, because I've never heard of this show.  What channel is this on?  Is it a series?

cricket -- it's on mtv and it's a new series.

i started thinking that this show would not make "regular" teenagers feel inadequate and jealous but make them see that having money doesn't make you happy or better than anyone else ... but after thinking about it, i'm not sure that a teenager would be mature enough to see how immature the kids on this show are (i'm looking at this from the perspective of a 28 yr old, btw).

for me, though, watching shows like this make me feel better about the fact that i don't have the diposable income i would like, because these people look like such fools and i can mock them to my heart's content while thinking about how much prettier, smarter and most of all NICER i am.

Well I'm 19 and I look at the show and laugh.  These girls think they are so rich...guess what girls...there's probably 100,000,000 other girls in the world more rich than you (prettier than you etc), so don't ever think you are better than anyone else!
