Running Shoe Recs
Permalink Closed

I know there are a number of runners on ST.  I have just started to up my running mileage during the week to augment my workout.  I don't have knee or joint issues, but I do have a tendencey to pronate (?) (my feet tend to roll out, but not to a large degree, that is where I notice wear in my shoes first).  I am running about 25-30 miles a week on a treadmill for right now, but I will be running outside when it gets warmer.

Any running shoe recommendations?  I want to spend no more than $150 on a pair of shoes, and I will be using them for running only (I will switch to my cross trainers for other things).

TIA!

I run in mizunos and they are wonderful, but I got them because I went to a running specialty store where they watch you run on a treadmill and give you a recommendation based on how you run and how your feet are built.  Before I did that I almost gave myself a stress fracture running in crappy shoes.

So maybe you could try that if you haven't already.  Good luck!

Definitely go to a running store to get your shoes.  They will watch you run and then they will have you wet your foot and step on brown paper.  This will tell them how your foot is shaped and thus the best "fit" for your foot.  If you have a pair of well-worn running shoes, take those with you too.  They will look at the sole to also tell how your foot tends to lean, etc.

I have been running for years (6+ miles every day) and love ASICS.

Listings of running specialty stores in US and Canada.  Hope there's a good one close by!

When I was training for the marathon, the coaches told us to go to a running store where they can help you pick out the perfect pair for you.  They had me try on several different pairs and watched as I ran in them to see which would work best.  They can also work within your budget as well.  It made a big difference having shoes that worked best for me!

you should to go to a running store, it's the only way to get the right shoe. bring in your old ones as well. they will look at the soles and will be able to determine your needs by the wear. you can usually try on different pairs and take them for a test run. good luck with your running!

I run about 50 miles a week. I have a few different pairs- I have trail running shoes and another pair for street. I have tried so many pair in the 10 years I have been running (that makes me sound old), but New Balances are my favorite. I like saucony too, but I stick w/ my NB.

I agree with going to a running shop. The are probably going to charge you more, but at least they can help you pick out a shoe. Then you can shop around for the shoe you want.

with the amount of mileage you're running, you definitely want a high quality shoe - that's the kind of mileage people run when training for marathons.  everyone's advice was good, i would just add one thing (which they will prob. tell you in the running store) - go a half size up, your feet swell when you run, plus you will be sure to get enough room for your toes (very important).

I pronate a little and i currently wear adidas brevards and they are wonderful.  no problems whatsoever.  i noticed when i wore shoes (saucony) that were super-dooper stability oriented that they gave me problems - my theory is that the heel was too thick and did something weird.
