Prince Charles to Marry Camilla By MICHAEL McDONOUGH, Associated Press Writer
LONDON - Prince Charles said Thursday he will marry his divorced lover Camilla Parker Bowles in April, putting an official seal on a long romance that Princess Diana blamed for the breakdown of her tempestuous marriage to the heir to the throne. The announcement ruled out the possibility that she would become queen.
The Prince of Wales and Parker Bowles will marry on Friday, April 8, at Windsor Castle, said Clarence House, Charles' residence and office.
During a visit to London's financial district Thursday, Charles accepted congratulations on his pending nuptials.
"Thank you very much, you're so kind." he said. "I am very excited."
Parker Bowles will use the title Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cornwall after the marriage. When Charles becomes king, she will not be known as Queen Camilla but as the princess consort, Charles' office said.
That decision by the prince appeared to be a nod to public opinion, which has never warmed to Camilla.
The marriage will be a civil service and not a Church of England service.
interesting that they have lasted this long. I think it's actually good that they are deciding to get married, though I really think Camilla is a homewrecker, at least this legitimizes their relationship.

finally - he should have married her instead of Diana in the first place - was it that he couldn't because Camilla wasn't a virgin or something? if they had married when they were young - I'm trying to picture the product of those two (offspring)
well, good for them - it's about time

now, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but Charles and Camilla have been together since they were kids and always in love - he wasn't allowed to marry her for a few archaic royal reasons, one of which, I'm pretty sure was that she was not a virgin... which was probably the doing of Charles anyway...

Homewrecker? Yikes. I think I'd blame both of them for "wrecking" their own homes rather than single her out.
Detroit, I always thought there was a specific reason that Charles wasn't allowed to marry Camilla, but all of the articles I've read this morning say that they met in the early 70s and then Charles went off with the Royal Navy and shortly thereafter Camilla married her first husband (Mr. Bowles). So based on that it seems like he didn't really have much of a chance to marry her first. He didn't marry Diana until '81 but I'm not sure when they met. Anyway, I'm sure Charles and Diana would have had problems with out without Camilla, and obviously he should have kept his pants zipped until after he and Camilla were both divorced but hey, this is the royal family and extramarital affairs have been par for the course for centuries!
I remember a report with dug up footage of Diana I saw last year or so in which she had revealed she had serious concerns with Camilla hanging around Prince Charles. Even described a confrontation in which Camilla said something to her something like, "what more do you want, the world loves you!" and Diana replied, "but I want my husband." Not that Prince Charles didn't deserve blame for that, but come on people, Camilla is a disliked figure for a reason. She was widely regarded as a homewrecker. Now, I agree that he just shouldn't have married Diana if he was still in love with Camilla.

On the one hand - good - it's obvious that they are each other's true love. On the other hand - wake the F up, royal family. He should have been allowed to marry her in the first place (there's no written rules on this, but it is definitely accepted/tradition that the future king will marry a virgin, and preferably a very young, Protestant virgin). I'm not a huge Diana fan but she did have her life rather carelessly thrown away, in a sense, by Charles, that marriage and the royal family in general. So good that they're getting married but boo to the royal family for clinging to archaic traditions that do individuals and, eventually the institution itself, more harm than good.

Not that I like either of them, but its good they can get married. The UK is such a socially progressive country, so not allowing them to marry before just made them look stupid.
Wait, I thought Charles was ineligible to be king due to the divorce. No? I thought everyone was talking about P.William being the next king.
Anyway, they've obviously stayed in love despite an immense amount of public pressure. I do think he's a total scuzz, though. Did anyone see the spoof of them on SNL?

So, I was in the UK last week when this news broke...
The night before it happened I was out with three of my clients for dinner. The "royal family" discussion came up and I said "so when is Charles going to make it official with Camilla--is that ever going to happen". They were all adamant that it would never happen, no way...
You should have seen their faces the next day when it broke over sky news when we were taking a "tea break".
The other interesting thing I saw over there were a ton of notes in Harrads at the Diana and Dodi memorial that said things like "Camilla will never be Queen of England, because you will always be the Queen of our Hearts".
