Do you have to wear fairly conservative business casual to work but dress in a totally different style on nights and weekends? Subtle makeup in the office but heavy eyeliner the rest of the time? Are you able to slip bits of your own personal style into your work wardrobe?
I work in corporate America and have to be business at all times. Although, the company has changed the policy to Business Casual, so I am able to incorporate some of my own style in my work outfits (as long as I don't go too far).
I have a very flexible job that is creative so I can wear pretty much whatever I want (within reason) to work. There are times when I need to wear more conservative clothes (like chamber luncheons), but not very often.
My job requires me to dress up alot, but not in business attire. By dressing up, I mean that I have to have on a dressy top, but I am allowed to wear jeans. The way I dress for work is basically how I would dress if I was going out with my friends for a nice dinner or if I was at a trade/art show selling jewelry. I always have to be perfectly put together for work and have to wear the most fashionable, perfectly accessorized outfits; it's really all about personal style. And because I want to get promoted to a District Manager position, I really have to pay attention to this. I love dressing like this, but when I'm not working, I tend to look like a slob, in cargos, baby t's, fitted zip-up hoodies, ect. Yesterday, for examply, I was home all day, making jewelry and writing articles, so I was a major slob in purple lounge pants and my favorite, oversized Temple U hoodie, zero jewelry and makeup. I guess it's a backlash to having to look perfect at least 5 days a week.
Like night and day...I have two totally different wardrobes...I need to be professional, conservative and plain for work, and on weekends all I wear are my stiletto boots and my rock and republic fitted jeans ;) I even wear my glasses all the time at work (I work on a comp a lot so contacts hurt my eyes) and I wear contacts all weekend.
i'm fortunate that my work environment is pretty casual (though i can't wear denim) so a lot of my personal style still shows in my work clothes. the main difference is the peices i use (almost all denim on the weekend) and non-denim during the work week.
I work in an electrical contractor's office, so it's pretty casual. I wear jeans about 75% of the time, mixed in with cords, black slacks, and various skirts. I actually try not to be too fashion-forward at work b/c I end up feeling out of place. I would say that really the only difference is that I usually wear heels to work, and go with my flat clogs or sneakers on the weekends.

I work in a fairly casual office. I do need to look nice, clean, and professional. For example, I can wear jeans to work, but I usually stick to a dark wash, trouser style denim.
I do tend to tone down my clothes A LOT for work. My personal style doesn't really fit in with the tone of our office and I like to keep the comments about my clothes to a minimum. I do fee that if I dressed how I would like to, I wouldn't get taken very seriously. 80% of the women in my office wear a sweater set and black pants or a white button down and khakis most days.
I do have a lot of clothes that go back and forth between work and weekend/going out. It is mostly my makeup and assessories that I tone down for work. For example, most of my friends would say that my trademark is gigantic, crazy rings, but I keep it simple for work. Same goes for my makeup, for work I don't wear much other than a little blush and mascara.
I'm totally night and day. For my one job (theatre assistant manager) I'm required to look professional, so that means black pants, black shoes, black socks (company policy on this) and usually button-downs. I also have a suit jacket for this job also (goes with a few pairs of my pants). This job requires me to basically look really boring.
My other job (assistant at my Dad's small company) is more Business Casual (but no jeans). I usually am able to be more creative and show my personal style more here, since the theatre job is a huge corporation and strict on what we can and cannot wear. I usually wear dress pants and fun sweaters/tops, with my pointy stilletto boots. It's still professional, but much for fun for me to get dressed for this job. I actually want to buy more clothes for this job since I can have more fun with it. I want different colored pants and more fun shirts, but of course still looking somewhat professional. Fridays are Casual Fridays, so I'm usually wearing one of my weekend casual outfits.
On the weekends, or on my time off, I'm uber-casual. As I've said in several of my other posts, I love the look of Ashley Olsen, so I'm a lot like that for those casual outfits. Those outfits are usually cardigans over really long shirts, jeans that are slit up the sides about 3", my Chucks, Vans, or flips. In the summer, it's all going to be about my denim miniskirts, tunics and tees.
i answered "about the same" but i am really somewhere in between that and "like night and day." i can get away with most things at work, but i tend not to take advantage of it because i still want to look professional. occasionally i wear jeans, but with a dressier blazer or top--but on the weekends i am more casual with some of the same pieces, and i will wear track pants or jacket, or cargo pants, and sneakers. i tend to be funkier on the weekend. i am not supposed to wear heels anymore because of a back injury, so i tend to feel more dressed-down in general because i am wearing flats all the time these days.
There's really no difference. I go to school and live in Florida, which is pretty casual and the weather's warm so I never have to wear closed toed shoes if I don't want to. I have an oral argument next week so I have to wear a suit, but otherwise anything goes. I've even worn a bathing suit under a tanktop with shorts and nobody blinked an eye. I try to make an effort and look cute most days but sometimes that just can't happen.
I am probably opposite to most of you girls. Because I am a chef, I either wear my "whites" (chef's uniform of white jacket and checked or black pants) for caters or just jeans and Ts if I'm not interacting with customers that day. So on the weekends and going out in the evening I try to be more fashion forward, less casual and wear blazers, heels, dressier pants etc. I tend to dress up on the weekend and dress down for work.
i feel like this is such an appropriate poll for me right now.... having worked in art for so long, i really had so much freedom to wear whatever i wanted. i could wear a cocktail dress and high heels to work on a monday/tuesday and then jeans and sneakers the next day and it was all fine. now i'm looking to get into a more corporate setting and wonder how a change in wardrobe will effect my lifestyle. all my beautiful shoes would have to be strictly weekend only :(
I said "like night and day" but it's really somewhere in between.
I just jumped into business casual during the workweek because of my new internship. I would say that the more girly side of me tends to come out. Pretty girly colors like pink and ivory...accents on whatever I'm wearing. Lots of Anthro and Anthro-esque stuff makes it to work. I try to buy basics that have a twist so I'm not too boring. On the weekend I am all about minis, jeans, flips, and t-shirts, but really there are elements that are shared between both.
i work in a casual office and usually wear jeans 3x/week. people here are super casual (it's an academic setting, lots of researchers) so if i get too dolled up, i feel out of place. sometimes i feel like i'm getting stuck in a jean rut and need to shake things up a little bit though.
on the weekends, i lounge around in track pants/tees during the day. at night, i go all out- fun top, my cutest jeans, heels, etc.
I work on a college campus... so I wear pretty much the same stuff all week. Though I'm more laid back on the weekends when I'm at home or more dressed up when I'm going out on the weekend nights.
