diet girls...what about weekends?
Permalink Closed

I'm usually really good about eating heathly during the week. But on the weekend I feel like a non-stop eating machine. Especially on Sunday nights when I'm at home I just want to snack, snack, snack. Plus we usually go out on weekends, drink, eat fast food, etc. How do you girls stick to your plans on the weekend? Any tips?

The weekends kill me too - I think it's mostly the loss of 'the routine'.  It's much harder to plan what/where/when you're going to eat on the weekends, but maybe having some 'good' snacky stuff around will help like light popcorn, fruit, veggies, whole wheat crackers, fat-and sugar-free pudding, frozen yogurt, etc.  That way if you do end up snacking you won't wake up 5 lbs. heavier the next day because of it!

My biggest weekend challenge is Sunday dinner.  My family gets together for a potluck dinner & it's really hard to resist some of the great home cooking.  Generally, I watch, but it's hard.  When going out, I order something healthier & avoid the cocktails.  One drink will lead to 2 or 3 & more snacking.

Weekends are so hard b/c you typically are not on any type of schedule.  I try to eat at home as much as possible since I am in control of what I eat.  As far as FF you need to educate yourself of what works best for you at each FF place.  Such as McDonald's their grilled chicken with no mayo is only 4 grams of fat.  Check out calorieking.com it is really great for finding out food content.  When you go out to eat try to stay away from anything white and go light on salad dressings.  Your waiter should be able to advise something that will fit into your diet.  I find when it comes to eating out its all about you and how much control you have.  And if you are having a craving for something such as McDonald FF order a small its much better than ordering the med or large.  You will be better off in the long run.

If it's not in the house, I won't eat it.  It sucks when I am DYING for something, but stops me from mindless overeating from boredom.

I am not too strict on the weekends, but I think that helps me stay on track 95% of the time.

This is going to sound really really cheesy, but here is 1 tip:  Sunday nights are the worst b/c I find myself sitting in front of the TV catching up on all the tivo-ed goodies I acquired during the week.  I try not to snack b/c I watched an episode of Oprah prob 3-4 years ago and she said that when you get that feeling "I could eat something, but I am not really that hungry" it means your body is starting to burn fat and not just calories.  SO, when I am sitting on the couch on Sunday nights and I feel that slight rumble, I just think "Whoa...I am burning fat!  yippee!"  I know that sounds dorky, but I honestly do think that.  Oh, and when you start to feel like this, drink some green tea - it REALLY helps!

I second Tara's green tea suggestion - Celestial Seasonings makes this lovely Mandarian Orchard flavored Green Tea (it's decaf) as well as some other tasty versions...it usually satisfies my craving for something sweet and makes me feel good because it's healthy and has lots of antioxidents and all that good stuff. My "diet" (I'm not really on a diet, just trying to eat sensibly) goes out the window on weekends too, mostly because of drinking. I'm cutting myself a little slack though because it's my last semester of college and I won't be drinking so often once I graduate and start working...

I usually workout harder during the weekends than on the weekdays.  I think it's different for me because I never know when I will leave work during the week.

Also, scheduling the gym for first thing in the morning (or afternoon depending on when you wake up) helps in making sure you get there before you can do anything else.  I also schedule classes and/or personal training on the weekend to make sure my butt gets to the gym.
