I think i have the flu. I have a fever, coughing, sneezing, hot and cold spells, and I am so weak and head feels cloudy. Someone pahleese tell me what to take to get better. I am on the verge of crying, I feel so bad. I havea low tolerance for sickness.
Irene - I had the nasty flu back in mid-December and I felt terrible. I felt so head in the clouds, etc. I took Tylenol Flu Liquid medicine and I also took Vitamin C pills and then just like advil or Motrin(sp?) Drink lots of fluids - water etc. Get lots of rest. Eat healthy. Hopefully you'll feel better. Mine lasted the worst for about 3-4 days.
TheraFlu is my miracle drug when I'm really sick. It's warm and more like tea than medicine (not so much the flavor, but the consistency). It really does the trick for me. Feel better!!
Sorry to hear that, Irene. When my hubby had the flu recently, he took Tylenol Flu medicine. We bought regular AND non-drowsy. It worked so well that he thought he was over it and quit taking the medicine. When it wore off, he realized he still had the flu. Kick ass stuff.
He used one of those herbal scented hot/cold packs. They are fabric on the outside, and filled with some kind of organic substance. Anyway, they either have chamomille tea in them or they just smell like it. We froze it and he basically wore it on his head for two days when he wasn't sleeping. Made him feel a LOT better. You can heat them in the microwave for a few minutes and they feel awesome on sore muscles.
Oh no, that is the WORST! I absolutely SWEAR by this stuff Body Well. I used to get sick all the time and I haven't gotten sick once (knock on wood) since I found this (about a year and a half ago). I've gotten about 10 of my friends into it as well. I take them when I am starting to get a cold or feel flu-ish. You can also take them when you're already sick, you just up the dose:
*oops, I can't get the link to work properly... but go to http://www.greatearth.com and do a search for Body Well.
Irene--I'm sorry you're feeling so badly. You've gotten some great advice here, so the only thing I would add is to drink lots of fluids (but not soda or coffee or anything caffeinated). Water and Gatorade are really good--Gatorade has electrolites in it which is great if you're sick or hungover or dehydrated--and get as much sleep as you can. Your body heals itself while you're sleeping, so that is key. Other things that helped me feel better when I was sick recently were:
-Vicks Vapo-rub--this stuff is awesome if your nose is stopped up and you can't breathe. Put it on your upper lip instead of your chest--it works better. it really soothed me and unclogged my nose and helped me sleep.
-Robitussen is good depending on your symptoms
-Take tylenol every 4 hrs or so to keep fever at bay
-I've heard that a humidifier is great for this kind of thing. My hubby and I just bought one but haven't set it up yet.
If whatever you have lasts more than a few days, see a doctor for some antibiotics. I got sick the weekend of MLK day and got so cold and weak the first night. I was so congested I couldn't talk (literally) and my throat seemed like it was closing up and it was hard to swallow. I took Tylenol Cold, TheraFlu, Alavert (Claritin D-12) and Suddifed. Nothing seemed to help, but to feel better, I drank lots of OJ, hot tea and layed around the house I also used the Breathe Right Vapor strips and applied Vick's to my nose, throat and chest. I was pretty much a zombie and fell behind at school.
The doctor said I had Sinusitis. I had never heard of it before but I never want to get it again and don't wish it on anyone. It was dreadful.
I hope you feel better soon if you aren't already!
alb-- yep, you only take it when you're getting sick, or already sick. i take it also if i was outside int he rain, on a plane, around little kids, etc. i've heard that its cured people of strep throat & stuff instead of penicillin, i find that a little hard to believe but it IS amazing stuff. :)
