Vonage Phone Service

Does anybody use Vonage internet phone service?  I was thinking about getting it because you can get unlimited calls in US and Canada for $24.99, but I just wanted to see if anybody had feedback first.  Thanks!

My husband just signed us up for this.  We should get the phone adapter thing by the end of the week.  I will post a review.  I think you have a two week trial period to cancel if you don't like it.

Thanks FashionPrincess.  I just found out my husband went ahead and signed us up, so I guess we'll be trying it at the same time.  The only thing that I was concerned about was the 911-thing.  You have to set it up to be routed to your local 911 operators and even then they won't know where you're calling from (if you can't talk or something).  I'm trying not to be paranoid about it!  Other than that, it sounds like a great deal, especially since most of our calls are long distance.

HI! My husband (a computer guy) has had this service for 7 years, we have been married for nearly a year and I've had this service - I LOVE IT!!!!! As a non-computer person, I can't tell a bit of difference from "normal" phone service except in my pocket book. I live long distance from my family & friends - all calls are FREE. With regular phone service i NEVER had a phone bill under $90, and my bill was more likely near $200. With similar phone patterns, yes, my bill is still only $25. Some people balk at this because if you are in an "emergency" then if you lose power you won't have a phone. Well, that's what cell phones are for, and chances are in an emergency you won't be able to use any phone service, so that's just silly!!! Sorry if this is long, but as an impartial 3rd party, i can't say enough good things. Save that phone $$$ for shoes like God intended!!!!!!

Thanks laken1, I was kind of worried about the emergency thing, but they I realized that all of the phones that we have are cordless and wouldn't work if the power went out anyway.  You're right, that's what cell phones are for!

In terms of the 911 thing, you would be surprised how many times 911 calls get routed to the wrong district anyway.  It is all dependant on phone company employees and how accurate their database updates are.  I worked as a director for a telecommunications firm for years and had 911 for about 6 months.  It is not a very organized or well-regulated process.
