What do we think of the Oscar nominations?

Personally, I hate the Oscars. I think they reward the worst movies. When Lord of the Rings won all those awards last year? I'm sure it was an entertaining movie, but there were sooooo many better ones. The Academey seems to think that money=good movie. Just look at how many Titanic won.

I can't believe Motorcycle Diaries was only nominated under Best Adapted Screenplay. I thought that was one of the best movies of the year and that they might throw Gael Garcia Bernal a best actor nomination even though he would never win. But there are a lot of other movies I loved that aren't nominated for anything important.

I also don't think Kate Winslet should be nominated for Eternal Sunsine. I love her, I think she's gorgeous, but that movie was only mediocre and she was ok in it. I don't understand all the hype around that movie, it was trying to be a lot deeper and more meaningful than it actually was.

I also don't think Cate Blanchett should be nominated for The Aviator. I also like her alot, but I think her performance was the worst part of the movie. I cringed whenever she was onscreen. Katharine Hepburn is a woman all her own and I appreciate that she's nearly impossible to imitate, but Cate really didn't pull it off. She came off as horsey and butch. I think they would've been better off choosing an unknown actress so that I wouldn't have had a preconceived idea of what she was like.

I am happy to see Catalina Sandino Moreno nominated for Maria Full of Grace. She'll never win, but it was an excellent movie and she was great in it.

I have to say that I don't watch award shows anymore. It just seems that the same people win all the time or the movies that win best picture really aren't that good in the eyes of the mass auidence. And besides i see everyone's dresses in US weekly anyways.

Totally predictable as usual. I don't think anyone is under the impression anymore that winning an Oscar = artisitic greatness. It's aaaall about the $ and the hype and that's it. I call Leo for best actor and Jamie Foxx for Best Supporting Actor (not because I want them to win, but because I think they will).

I also bet that insufferable, overgrown ingenue Natalie Portman will win. Ugh.

tell us how you really feel mia. the oscars are total bs. imo it's not even about the money, it's about paying your dues, and how good your campaign is. i'm thinking that the aviator will win best picture. since the general consensus is that scorsese is over due (though fortunately he didn't win for that godawful (imo) gangs of new york). but then again i have not seen a single movie nominated (though most of the time i think the people who vote haven't either) so what do i know.
