Does anyone have experience with Zip Cars?
Permalink Closed

I'm looking at renting a car for a day to go to Muir Woods when I'm in San Francisco next month.

I like the idea of Zip Cars but I don't want to sign up for a membership to do it. Do you have to sign up for a package? All I need it for is a day.

Any experience would be helpful!

It looks like you need to sign up for a zip card. I'm assuming they need something so they can track a person down if something happens to the car.

And by the way, renting a zipcar is a great idea! I'm totally stealing it.

ETA: Scratch that. Looks like it costs $75 to apply and become a member. Hrrmphhhhmm

I know!

I found one with Enterprise for ~$65 a day. Not too bad.

Thanks!

Zipcar is great if you need a car a lot but don't own one, but for a one time deal not so much.

Check around for other car-shares in the area. We've got two in Philly, Zipcar and something called Philly Carshare. The second is actually a free membership, you only pay when you use the car. Perhaps San Fransisco has something like that.

Also if you google zipcar discount/coupon/code you should be able to find a coupon either waiving/lessening the annual fee or for some free driving time.

Good luck!

It looks like you can take a bus or ferry to Marin county, then take a shuttle to Muir woods for $2. I think taking a ferry would be awesome!!
