Anyone have any recommendations for restaurants or shopping in any of these cities? I am hitting them all for vacation this year. We'll spend one night in downtown Asheville, 6 nights in Hilton Head and a day trip to Savannah. Thanks!
I have no dinner recommendations for Asheville because DH and I always eat dinner in the Library at the Biltmore Inn.
---------
Savannah We ate at Sapphire grill before. It is a sexy restaurant; I remember the food being good. http://www.sapphiregrill.com/
I know nothing esle other than it is fun to just walk aournd. Check with SCAD to see if they're hosting any performances, exhibitions, or demonstrations of student or faculty work.
There is a large park in town with huge willow trees. It is surrounded by a neighborhood. It's a fun place to throw the Frisbee and have a picnic.
------------------------------- Hilton Head? Rent bikes to ride on th beach - I don't know much else.
Savannah has both Paula Deans Resturant I believe it is called Lady Fingers and they also have a resturant called Miss Wilkes Boarding House. Both are supposed to be excellent.
Awww, I grew up in Asheville! I go back every chance I get. Pollyjean made some excellent Asheville recommendations, I second all of them!
I also love Tupelo Honey for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Southern favorites with little twists :) http://www.tupelohoneycafe.com/
Zambra is a fun tapas place that used to be great, but I haven't been in awhile, so I can't vouch for it now. (http://www.zambratapas.com/)
If you like beer and live music....Jack of the Wood could be a fun place to go at night. Thursday through the rest of they weekend they have some kind of band playing (often bluegrass), and they brew their own beer. It's definitely more low key, though. (http://www.jackofthewood.com/)
Are you a chocolate gal? If so, the Chocolate Fetish has killer truffles in really interesting flavors. I really like the wasabi truffle. (It has a fancy name that I can't remember.) (http://www.chocolatefetish.com/)
As far as shopping goes....Tops, which Pollyjean mentioned. I love that store. I also like Minx Boutique (64 N Lexington Ave.) They have fun and interesting clothes/bags that I don't see anywhere else. Lexington Ave. has some interesting little shops on the way down to Minx, as well.
This is kind of random, but if you wear glasses....L'Optique on Wall St. is amazing. They have the coolest frames and very helpful sales people. People are constantly asking me where I got my glasses, and I just saw my sister with an unbelievably fabulous new pair that she got there recently. (http://www.loptiqueonline.com/)
Where are you staying in Hilton Head? We used to go there a lot, but we spent most of our time in the Sea Pines area.
Your trip sounds awesome! Hope you have a great time :)
I love Early Girl and Tupelo Honey in Asheville. I like to shop at Kress Emporium too. It has all these little booths that local artists stock with their stuff so you can find awesome homemade art, jewerly, ceramics, etc.

Only been to Asheville for a short drive thru, but we ate at a restaurant called Table and it was so yummy that my colleagues and I took a picture of the sign to remember the name. We had brunch/lunch... I still dream about the creamy yogurt with honey...
