pointless?  I just received this posting on MySpace:

That's right, next Thursday, we need everybody to scrape by without spending one single penny all day. This is a huge movement around the US to strike a huge blow to corporate America on the day of Bush's inauguration.

Do whatever you might the day before to prepare, but please don't spend a dime on January 20th. Imagine if the worst day for the American economy in decades happened on the same day that Bush spends $40 million to throw himself an inauguration party. It could send a huge message and grab headlines around the entire world. Band together to send the strongest message possible, the message of the almighty dollar!

If ya need something, buy it in advance. NOT ONE DAMN DIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

repost!!!

If you don't buy whatever it is on Thursday, wouldn't it be correct to assume you would buy it on Wednesday or Friday (or even another day) instead?  It even says to do that in the post.  So, what effect would this really have on our economy?  I hate this kind of stuff, like boycott buying gas or boycott going to the mall.  First of all, it is not like it is a year boycott or a week, it is a freakin' DAY!  Seriously, who's going to care if like, 100 people out of billions don't spend any money?  Second of all, nobody really does this stuff (at least not enough people to matter).  Third of all, even if they did, they would make up for it another day.  To do a boycott right, you have to get a good following and boycott whatever it is until you achieve the result you are looking for.

Ok, I boycot so many places and things, Exxon, Snapple, Walmart, and the list goes on...

A one day boycott can be effective to make an impact for the day alone, but if everyone goes back to spending the day after I don't see the point.

If this was to truly make a point then explore the vast holdings of his family and Dick Cheney's and make a true plan to boycott those throughout the year, although with their holdings which run deep it would be nearly impossible.

I see the point but think it's an ineffective message.

Ally S, sorry for my ignorance, but why Snapple?

Maddie, I'm not sure of Ally's reason, but I boycott Snapple b/c of their anti-choice and pro-criminalization of marijuana stances.

Yeah, this seems idiotic on so many levels. Boycotting can be an effective tool in changing things, but this just seems ineffective and without and hard thought behind it. Damaging the US economy would be bad for Bush and good for Bush haters why, again? I'm not pro-Bush but the last thing anyone needs is for the US economy to tank (and if that really is what you want, why not just wait for it to happen of its own accord?). That's bad for everyone. Talk about cutting of your nose...

I boycott Snapple for these exact same reasons as you do. The corporation as a whole has some very conservative stands and donates some of there profits to support these causes.

I would never knowingly contribute to them so I won't patronize companies that do.

I think that a boycott is stupid.

(standing on soap box)

the people calling for this boycott are also the people who complain about our economy so a boycott would only further hurt the economy and would not help it so that would make them hypocrites. Right?

(stepping down)
