My hubby and I were invited to a party tonight. I just looked up the email to double check the starting time, and I totally forgot that we were asked to bring a bottle of wine/liquor. Usually that is no problem, except that I live in the middle of the bible belt in Oklahoma and there isn't are no liquor stores open today. You can only buy 3.2 beer on Sundays!
What do I do? Do I show up with nothing and explain that I am an idiot that forgot until today, or show up with cheap beer?
I could call my friend/neighbor and ask to borrow a bottle, but they weren't invited to the party.
does your neighbor know the people having the party and would they be hurt to learn they were not invited? if not, I would explain the situation to my neighbor and see if I could borrow a bottle of wine. if that doesn't pan out, I would bring the beer and explain that it slipped your mind to pick something up - your friends should understand and just be happy you are there...

Hey Kari--I agree with what Detroit said. I'm sure that if your neighbors/friends don't know the person they would be glad to loan you a bottle. if that doesn't work out for you, I would probably call the hostess and explain the situation and ask if there's something else you could bring, i.e. a dessert or something. I'm sure she would appreciate the offer, esp if she needs something at the last minute and doesn't have time to run to the store. HTH!
My neighbor is a classmate, as is the person hosting the party, so I didn't ask them. However, I finally got in touch with another friend I had been trying to call and she had an extra bottle of wine.
