I am confused!!
Permalink Closed

I have been going to school off and on for the last three years, in the midst of that I have also changed my mind about half a dozen times about what I want to do. Right now I am working full time and I have finally decided (I think) that I want to go to the Art Institute for Fashion Design. I want to create my own line of bags and jewelery. It just seems so overwhelming to me.  I really don't know where to begin and don't know if this is even a smart idea. It seems like I would likely have to hold a full time job while designing and going to school. Does anyone here have any experience in the fashion industry?? I would love to do something with it as it has been my passion for almost my entire life. I ideally would like to open my own boutique type store, but everything I want to do seems so far fetched and un realistic!! I feel lost in my life like I have no idea where I'm headed and it drives me nuts!! I want direction and I know I have to be the one to decide what I 'm gonna do I just need a push to go for it and commit!!

I don't have any experience...I know several girls here have jewelry-design businesses, though. I do have parents who own their own businesses, though, and I can tell you that it's nowhere close to easy. I do think that having a passion for something helps tremendously, though. I would check with the counselors at the school you're interested in -- you'll want to start shadowing/interning and they can make those connections for you.
