We're staying the night in Baton Rogue this Saturday as we drive to San Antonio.  Can anyone recommend a good casual restaurant for me?  We'll have our girls with us, so nothing too fancy or busy unless I can make a reservation.  Open to any kind of food.  We're staying @ Springhill Suites, so somewhere around there would be nice, but not necessary!

Thanks!

You know, I was just thinking someone around here was from there and it is her.  But, she changed her screen name long ago and is back as of today!  =)

Hey! What interstate/road is that off of?? I can give you choices if you give me an address/area and what you like to eat. I will warn you though that BR is mainly chain restaurants and some of the local "cajun" places can make you sick (food is good spices don't quite agree with people though).

Oh if you need a rec for Houston let me know!

Thanks, Aurora.

It's in Baton Rouge South on Essen Park Ave.

hmm.  My brother's favorite casual place is called Times Grill which is right off of Essen by the rail tracks.  It's pretty good.  Copelands is there as well.  It's good but you have to watch on the "cajun" seasoning as it can be put on pretty heavily.

If you go over to Bluebonnet (1 exit east) there is Cheesecake Bistro (a cheesecake factory knock off that is good).  Further up the road is a Buffalo Wild Wings.  They are building a California Pizza Kitchen but I'm not sure if it's open or not.  They also have a texas de brazil (pretty cool steak house but it's $$)  Might be worth it if you've never been to one.  They run around with meat on a stick and cut off chunks for your plate.  There is also a Logan's roadhouse or something similar by the mall that is ok.
Ralph and Kacoos use to be good but I hear the service has declined.  Further up the road is a Cajun restaurant - Boutins or something similiar but every time someone in my family goes there they end up sick and running home.  It has a cute environment though.

Siegn Lane (2 exits east) - The places over there keep going in and out of business.  There is a Cici's, chilis, olive garden, Backyard BBQ or burgers (something like that), Cheeburger Cheeburger (burger joint that is ok).

If you go the other way (west) you can hit up college drive which has Macaroni Grill, Ninfas (good ritas), there is another decent mexican chain by the Macaroni grill, there is a chinese restaurant on college - great wall (skip it!!), ruby tuesday, Champps is down by the Wholefoods.

Oooh that could be a really good place to go.  I know it sounds kooky but the Wholefoods in Baton Rouge is awesome.  They have "mini" restaurants set up in there where you eat at the counter and everything is super fresh.  There is a seafood one, sushi, BBQ, pizza, burgers, hot items, salads, etc.  You could go Essen to Jefferson, take a right on Jefferson and it will bring you to Corporate Blvd where you would take a left at the light and then a right at the shopping center there.

The problem is that there aren't too many "Local" places there.  Everything is just one chain after another :(  Hope this gave you some insight.

Thanks!  I think we might do Whole Foods.  Sounds yummy!  It would be easy to do take out from there if the girls are basket cases after the long drive.  Also, I'm sure they'd rather swim than go out to dinner.  Thanks for your help!

Ciao!
