Anyone have a smooth-top stove?

Your stove should have come with an instruction/maintenance booklet that lets you know how to clean it. If it didn't (or doen't have a section on good/bad cleaners), try to use a damp wash cloth on spills when they first happen. If you end up with caked/dried/cooked on spills, you would probably be fine with windex - make sure you use it sparingly and it would also be a good idea to wipe it with water after you clean it with the windex (b/c it's flammable).

We just got 3 new appliances yesterday and my husband must have put the manuals somewhere, but I don't know where. I guess until he gets home, I'll just use water, no Windex. Thanks!

My mom has a smooth top stove, do not use windex, it will scratch the surface and ruin the top!!!! I will ask my mom what else she uses. I know she uses the wax type stuff but other than that Im not sure, our stove always looks clean so Im sure she has a trick. When I get a chance to talk to her I will ask.

I have a black flat top stove. I never use Windex or any other product on the top of it, although I do use spray cleaners on the door.

I use a soft cloth (kitchen dishcloth) and warm soapy water to clean it, rinse the cloth well and go over it a few times to get the soap off, then I take a slightly damp cloth and wipe off all residue and buff it off. I use the waxy, paste but not everyday day, it can make it murky looking if you don't buff it well enough.

If you have spills or splatters catch them right away. I also found in a cookware store a splatter guard cover for pans, they also come in various sizes for pots. Its essentially an woven mesh cover that allows steam, etc to escape but catches all the mess.

I know there is some special stuff that is for it. It comes in a white bottle. I have used it but i find that it only works so-so. I use windex and spray muti-purpose cleaner. I guess I am treating my appliances bad.

Thanks. I found the manual and it said to use the waxy stuff, but I'll use the warm soapy water most of the time. I just can't imagine putting that stuff over food. I'm so excited about the stove though. I'm a SAHM, so I cook a lot. I got so sick of cleaning out those burners. The stove was there when we bought this house and it was absolutely the cheapest one they could get. The door didn't have a window, and the oven didn't have a light. I had to use a flashlight to check on food. I finally snapped on Tuesday. Told my husband I was leaving if we didn't get a new one.

Be careful about sugar on them. My boyfriend busted a jelly jar on his stove on accident and the jelly made little pits all over the stove. The manufactured said it was from the sugar. Just thought I would let you know.

I was going to post a warning about sugar too, when I saw Ryan's. My friend overheated fudge on her flat top stove six weeks after she bought it, and it's ruined.

My parents have one and I love it. The little thing of wax should last you a long time, you really won't need more than soap and water. Unless you burn syrup or something awful on there you shouldn't have any worries.
