House shopping - sites?

(Shopping for the house itself, that is.)

I know of realtor.com and realestate.com. Any other suggestions? We have a realtor but wanted to look around ourselves, too.

You may have already thought of this, but local realty business have websites that list the houses they have and other's have for sale. That is how we looked for my brother and SILs house. It was so helpful because we could pick the area, size and price and it would do the searchign for you. That way you can elimante houses with out haveing to waste time looking for them.

When we were looking for our present house, I spent a lot of time on msn's real estate section.

Are you looking for a new or resale home?

www.century21.com  has a very comprehensive search process.

www.remax.com is also good (and has a luxury home search engine that's fund to look at)

Have you tried google?  Just type in City AND Real Estate - it usually brings up the smaller, more local sources.

i found realtor.com to be the best.

when we were looking, our real estate agent had a thing on his computer where he put in our criteria and everytime something new came on the market that matched, the listing would be automatically emailed to us.  that was really cool.

www.realtor.com is the best because it lets you search the mls database. I also found that the local craigslist can be a good source
