Has anyone read this and have any thoughts? I'm thinking about ordering it from Amazon since my bf is placing an order and wants to get free shipping. It has come highly recommended to me and I was just wondering if you feel that it would be a better read if you had a stronger background in the Bible. Thanks!

Read it, loved it. My Bible knowledge is sketchy (like I could make a very general outline of events but that's it) and I still enjoyed it. Maybe just look up a quick summary of the Old Testament if you don't know anything about it. The book itself tells the story, so the only reason you'd want the Biblical version would be to compare it to the story the book tells, which is quite different.

This is one of my favorite books of all time. I'm not religious at all and have zero biblical knowledge and I found it absolutely enthralling. Like halleybird said, you don't need to have any bible background to follow the story. A must read!!
I loved this book. I read it several years ago so my memory of it is fuzzy but I just loved it and thought it was great. Definitely order it, read it and share it.
I just called to pick this book up at the library where I work and asked the reference librarian to put it aside for me, she said the several copies we own have been circulating almost constantly since they got them years ago.
Even finding an available copy on an inter library loan is tough! I don't usually buy books but I may have to pick this one up, it sounds fascinating.
