are you trying to come up with recipes for an event or just wondering?

-most recipes involving corn, so maybe for an appetizer corn chowder, corn bread, corn pudding
-crabcakes
-clam chowder
-chicken fingers
-buffalo wings

actually i guess most typical party finger foods - potato skins, pigs in a blanket

i've got a ton of southern recipes at home and a weird new england cookbook that i can look through if you want more ideas.

thanks! it's actually for work. i'm doing an application for a chef and i have to describe aspects of his program that are specifically american. so i'm trying to think of american foods so i can say he'll learn how to make them.

well i think of things like mac & cheese, roasts, hamburgers?... sorry this all sounds so lame.

maybe look up some nice "american" restaurants and see what their menus have to offer and go from there. i feel like there are always hints of other kinds of cooking in "american" food.

huh. i can't think of many american foods that sound impressive or would require much training in order to prepare them.

i guess bbq and anything along those lines. ribs, pulled pork.
anything southern - catfish, hush puppies

for desserts - apple dishes (apple pie, crisp, brown betty, etc), cheesecake, key lime pie, pecan pie.

Maybe look at foods by Emeril or Bobby Flay on foodtv.com. I think they both concentrate on gourmet American cuisine.

I would say american but not good for you is:

I would consider pigs in a blanket or the nicer tuxedo dogs to be american

also i have seen them be called coney island dogs whichhave the mini dog, saurkraut wraped in filo dough totally american (with a hint of german)
