So I succombed last week and got the 40G ipod. I'm so excited! What are some sites to download music from (legally - I'm familiar with the illegal ones!) that are cheaper than ITunes? Are there any? I know walmart does them at 88 a mp3 but i boycott walmart so any other good sites?

use a yahoo or hotmail account, the best tool for it is Azureus, find it by doing a Google search. Download the latest version which is: 2.2.0.2


Warning, it's addictive and they have everything including full albums and e-books too.

I have used a few other sites as well and found this one to have the widest selection/range to choose from of any of them so far.

My husband uses the musicnow.com website to download tunes to his mp3 player and has no complaints. It's 99 cents a song and they have quite the variety of music.

Be careful where you buy songs from.  I discovered that if you buy songs from Napster they will not convert the format so you can put it in your Itunes file for uploading into your Ipod, due to the "protected" format.  I don't know which others are protected, but since then I have only bought from Itunes. 


Let me know if you find other sites (legal only for me, please) that allow you to download into your Itunes library.

for a less legal option, i like soulseek. it's at slsk.org. even my dad uses it now.
