that the guys you are least interested in are the most forward and persistent at bars? With out a doubt it always happens to me. Some loser w/ the most god awful accent w/ and the worst pickup lines, sipping on a frozen strawberry daquairi will come up to me and try to kick it to me! WTF! I'm so over it....

Yup, that's me too.  And the guys you're interested in are not interested in you.  Blech..what a horrible cycle it turns into...

I know this problem only too well.  I think guys are just programmed to chase.  If you say no or act uninterested, they want you more.  I always tell myself I should just treat the guys I do like like the guys I don't like.

I know exactly what you mean! Where do these gross guys get the nerve to go up to girls when really hot guys are too shy? (Okay, this is how I look at it - I'm sure it's not that the really hot guys aren't interested, right???)

I have this friend who is sooo beautiful. She looks like Lucy Liu, although she'd kill me for saying that. And everywhere we go inane and completely unattractive men (who are so short they only make it to her chest, much to their dismay, I'm sure) come up to her. And yet it's rare to see a hot guy come up to her, although they look at her and seem interested. It's the weirdest thing.

Maybe men are scared of really attractive women? I don't know the answer to this one - it seems completely wrong and backwards though.

But it's like Mama Gena says. If you're laughing and having a good time, that's where all the men want to be. Where the fun is - you!

Lola, this is going in our book - the perplexities of men in bars.

my theory is that these types of men have nothing to lose.  they know they're dorky/weird/whatever, so they feel comfortable hitting on the most attractive women in the bar because they have been doing it, and getting rejected, their whole lives.  i think it takes a certain level of ego-resiliency to be one of these men, and there are definitely lots of them out there.

oh yes, i think you're quite right. it's the thrill of the game that's exciting to them. i try to tell myself that i should 'play harder to get', but sometimes with guys i like, it's just soooo hard.

Maybe they think it's a matter of probability.  The more women they hit the higher the chance that one might just say yes
