What celebraties have you seen in person?
Permalink Closed

Just because I started this poll doesn't mean I've met/seen anyone too interesting. I thought that maybe some of you have or might have a good story to go along with it. Concerts don't count... you have to see them upclose.

Here are my lame sightings...

*I saw Adriana Lima (the hot VS model pictured below) in NY... she lives in my best friend's building

*The lead singer of Hootie and the Blowfish on a flight from Atlanta to Dublin

*Marlee Matlin, the deaf actress, with her kids at Universal Studios CA

*Another theme park siting... I saw the cast of Full House at Disney World when I was in 8th grade. They were filming an episode there and I saw Candace Cameron and the twins (when they were little and not the icons they have become).

*Alec Baldwin in Athens, GA. It was when he was married to Kim Basinger and they were in town visiting her dad. My friend is Kim's niece so that's not that big of a deal. I've never met Kim though.

*Kenny Rogers (the gross, old country singer from the 1970s) at a Mailbox Ect. in Atlanta.

*Lynda Carter (WONDER WOMAN!!!) in Vancouver... she was staying at our hotel while she was filming a movie.

*Kelly Ripa... this is probably my best siting. I was at the Atlantis and my friend and I were at the pool bar trying to get drinks. We thought everyone was staring at us and then we felt like idiots when we realized she was like 2 feet away. She was wearing the cutest Shoshanna cherry bikini and was SO tiny. She was there with her husband (who was cute, but short) and 3 kids... no nanny either which impressed me.

***Despite my above postings of pretty much B and C level celebrities, I have seen almost everyone in the country music industry. I worked for an artist for 2 years and then at a label while I was in college and can honestly say I've seen pretty much everyone who's famous in that area.

Mine are even more lame...

--I saw Charo at Disneyland, riding the Matterhorn. She was dressed like you would think Charo would dress at Disneyland, sort of Soccer Mom-meets neon.

--At the Universal Studios hotel, we saw Abigail and Spencer Breslin.Abigail and Spencer at the 'Raising Helen' Premiere  Abigail is the little girl from Signs and Spencer is her brother, he was in Princess Diaries 2, The Kid, Raising Helen, etc. They were sitting a table away from us at the restaurant -- my sister (age 11 then) recognized Abigail and started talking very loudly and obnoxiously about how Signs is the scariest movie she'd ever seen (a lie). Finally, their mom turns around and says, "I wouldn't even let my daughter watch it -- and she was in it!"  Their mom was really nice, and stopped to talk to us for a little while. We found out later that they were there because Spencer was filming Cat In the Hat.

I have met Grace Park (the golfer)...that was pretty lame, though.

Oh, and I did meet Luke Walton very, very briefly back in college. He actually had a crush on me for like one day and almost came to my 21st birthday party, according to his friend.

ETA: I forgot that I saw Charles Barkley at the Bellagio casino a few years ago. He walked right past us. My husband the HUGE sports nut didn't even notice! LOL

You would think that since I have lived in NYC for my entire life that I've got a list a mile long, but I don't. I tend to not pay attention when I walk around and I never go to "hot" night spots. And I pass film shoots all the time but I never bother to look to see if there are any stars around.

-I saw Woody Allen and Soon-Yi Previn when he was shooting Everyone Says I Love You around the corner from my school. I was trying to go to the deli but they were filming a scene there. He was rubbing her shoulders. I love Woody, but it was a bit creepy.

-I met Beck when I got backstage at one of his concerts. Some woman gave my friend and me VIP passes. It was pretty empty backstage and we talked to him for a little bit but I was so in love with him that I was practically catatonic. I remember talking about toasters. I've met other indie music people too, but I don't know if anyone would really care. I guess the next most famous after Beck would be Steve Albini who is a fairly famous record producer (In Utero, Bush, etc) and has been in a bunch of bands.

-I've seen lots of big art world people, but I guess my best encounter was when I went out to dinner with Matthew Barney and a bunch of people from the art department at my college. I had to sit next to him, it was kind of weird. I feel like he's fairly well known outside the art world because he married Bjork and has a kid with her.

-I went to Roger Ebert's first Overlooked Film Festival so I met him and some of the people who were in the films. None of them were really big stars though.

-Finally....I met Leonardo diCaprio and Mark Wahlberg when they were filming the Basketball Diaries. Through a connection, my friend and I were allowed to sit in on one of their basketball practices with this Catholic h.s. team. Leonardo's mom is actually a childhood friend of my aunt's and I remember mentioning that to him because they've met before. I also remember that he signed a poster or something for me and had the hardest time spelling my name. Also, Marky Mark called me cutie.

Hmmm I'm sure I've got some more but that's all I can remember.

Geraldo Riveria sat on a plane seat ahead of me- jealous?

My Mom's partner at work is the god father of Matthew Macohaguey. I have been around him a few times. He was very nice.

HUGH GRANT!!! I met him on a golf course. I was golfing with my dad and a few of his friends in Ireland. He was really cool. Any my dad is such a dork he asked Hugh to take a picture of all us golfing. He didn't ask Hugh to be in the picutre he just asked him to take it. I have the biggest crush on him!

I have also met a bunch college athletes in my classes at the University of Michigan that have later go on to become pro athletes.

ben affleck  at the grungy local bar in college. we actually hung out with him (but i use we in the very general sense) he was nice enough, but he's really not impressive in person. though i am biased b/c i don't think he's that impressive in general.

matt damon -- my roommate recognized him. i was excited for a 1/2 a second then i went back to eating dinner

bob saget -- i actually have pictures with him. he was coked out of his mind (i probably shouldn't share that, but he's not really a-list so i don't think anyone cares)

natalie portman -- she is the teeniest, tiniest person ever. she looks like she's 12

tatiana ali -- very nice person

tyson beckford (the model, he used to do a lot of ralph lauren ads) -- he's short

rosario dawson -- she's also tiny

redman (the rapper) -- saw him in passing in south beach

thandie newton -- my friend and i were walking and we saw her trying to hail a cab. she's the most elegant looking person i've ever seen

black eyed peas (rap group) -- this was pre fergie. they were nice. but then again, i'm inclined to think that anyone who puts up with a bunch of rowdy college kids is nice (see above re ben affleck)

shaquille o'neal -- he was really lame. also in miami, i was going to get a slice of pizza and he was blocking the door to the pizza place, in this really obvious "gawk at me" kind of way and he's a big guy. i literally had to duck under his arm to get inside to get my slice. and i really don't care for him, so i was trying my hardest to act like i was sooo unimpressed.

richard jefferson (basketball player) -- the love of my life. i saw him at a club. my friend convinced me to talk to him, and i proceeded to make a complete ass of myself b/c i was so starstruck (though he's not really a "star")

kenyon martin (another basketball player) -- in foot locker. i actually stood in line to get his autograph (in my defense the line wasn't really that long) and his wife gave me dirty looks.

interestingly enough, most of these people i saw in college (with the exception of the athletes) i walk around the city so much, but i never see -- maybe i should say recognize famous people.

eta: i thought of one more. saw jay-z over the summer at 40/40. after he walked by my friend was like "damn, we didn't get discovered" so obviously a career as a video girl is not in my future.

For someone who works in Hollywood, my list is pathetic!

  • Carrot Top (see the thread about LA in the travel section)

  • Michelle Branch

  • Shaq (yeah, honey, he's not very impressive...we met him at a Houston's steakhouse in LA and my BF's brother tried to get his autograph because it was his birthday and Shaq did it really reluctantly and he didn't even try to be nice )

My BF's list is way cooler, if a lotta kiddie

  • Kelly Clarkson (and Justin Guarini too...)

  • Hilary Duff

  • Drew Barrymore

  • Weslet Snipes

  • Tim Allen (he's a bastard IRL)

  • Justin Timberlake & Cameron Diaz (he was at the awards show where they met...)

  • Kobe Bryant (even ate dinner with his then fiance, now wife...they're literally the sweetest people ever, when the sex thing came out none of us could believe it)

  • Rodney Dangerfield (according to BF, man still thinks we're at WW2 and v. anti Asian)

  • Kirsten Dunst

  • Amanda Bynes

  • Steve Irwin

  • Jim Carrey

  • MK & Ashely Olsen

(there's loads more on his list but I can't remember them all)

Hmm, I live in Iowa so I've only seen 1 person: 1. Tracy Bingham came to the theatre I work at; she was with her husband at the time (who was from Ames) and I tore her ticket. She was pretty nice. Very tiny also. That's the only person I've seen myself, but Neil Diamond and Dustin Diamond have both been at my theatre; I just happened to not be working.

This is a good one!  I have been pretty lucky - even before I moved to Chicago I met a healthy number of people and I have talked to all of them.

Pre Chicago:

  • Mel Gray - pro football player (married a friend of mine from college)
  • Most of the guys that Mel played on the Lions w/ including Barry Sanders
  • My friend's husband played football at Michigan so I hung out with all of these guys while we were in college: Tom Brady, Brian Griese, Anthony Thomas, Charles Woodson, David Terrell and Lloyd Carr (the coach-didn't party with him though, hee-hee)
  • Mel Gibson and his agent (my friends and I actually ate dinner with them in Vegas)
  • Dru Hill (Sisqo), Adam Carolla and Dr. Drew - at a taping of Loveline in LA
  • A friend of mine is a casting director for Paramount and his best friend is independant film director Greg Araki (Doom Generation, Splendor, Nowhere).  While I was out there we went to a party and Greg's and I hung out with these people: Kathleen Robertson (Claire from 90210 - Greg's gf), Scott Caan, Nathan Bexton, Rachel True, Jonathan Schaech, James Duvall and a bunch of other people that I can not remember
  • Cameron Mathison - Ryan Lavery from AMC, funny thing is that I didn't watch it then, but I do now!!

In Chicago:

  • While I was a bartender I waited on or hung out with these people at the club I worked at: N'Sync (they are all really nice, but JT is a terrible tipper and a bit of an ass), Brian McKnight (super nice guy), Wesley Snipes (slightly odd and can I just say, holy short man Batman!), Sarah Michelle Gellar
  • William Peterson (Gil from CSI), around the corner from my old place
  • The guy that played Drake in Blade Trinity - met him on my way to work 2 days after I saw the movie.  Lord only knows what he was doing walking around at 7:30 on a Friday morning?!
  • David Boreanez and his wife Jaime Bergman - his wife is a Playmate so I introduced myself to her and told her that I worked for PB and she insisted that we hang out with them all night.  I have to admit - it was pretty cool.  He is just as quiet as Angel...
  • At my office: lots of Playmates, Jermaine Jackson, George Foreman II, Tracy McGrady, P Diddy (he is really short and the suit he had on probably cost as much as a car - super nice though), Torrie Wilson from the WWE
  • David Schwimmer, Jeremy Piven and Joey Slotnick - they are good friends with a guy that I know and I hung out with them at his bar

Oh, this is a fun one!  Although my list is pitiful - hopefully I'll think of some more later.

*Tanya Harding - The ice skater at the mall skating rink on my 10th or 11th birthday.  We got her autograph.

*Josh Hartnett - Filming a movie this past April/May in the parking lot outside my old work - WTF are they doing filming a movie in Spokane?  Colin Farrell was supposed to be there too but I never saw him - believe me if I had I would be telling you about our torrid affair right now . . .

*Owen Wilson - Tried (really hard) to get me and my best friend to go home with him at a party in NYC about a year and a half ago.  His desperation was not appealing.

I'll edit later if I think of any more.

Saw Damon Wayans in LA at Vitello's (Restaurant famous now for the Robert Blake murder case) in Spring 2002.

Spoke to Jose Conseco in LA at The Standard on Sunset in 2002.  My husband and I think we also spoke/joked around with with Tommy Davidson (In Living Color) that night, but it might have been a lookalike because we didn't ask his name and at the time we couldn't remember why he looked familiar either.

Saw Geri Halliwall (Ginger Spice of Spice Girls) in Dallas at a Mavericks game when I had courtside seats in 2000.  She wore pink snakeskin cowboy boots and her pink thong was hanging way out of her jeans.  Also saw Steve Nash, Dirk Nowitski, and Eduardo Najara of the Dallas Mavericks at a bar called Nikita in 2002.

Saw Adam Duritz (Counting Crows) and the rest of the band at a SMALL backyard Labor Day barbeque (no hot dogs either, only veggie burgers) in Hollywood in 1998.  Pam Dawber (Mork and Mindy) was there too.  Random!  The party was being thrown by some friend of a friend who is a casting director, so there were likely other actors there, but unrecognizable to me.

Saw comedian Margaret Cho at a party in LA in 1998.

Saw Deion Sanders and various other Dallas Cowboys in 1998 at Pappadeaux Seafood after a game.

Spoke to Jack Wagner (Dr. Peter Burns of Melrose Place) at a celebrity golf tournament in Plano, TX in 1997.  I was working the event for Outback Steakhouse, outdoors.  He was very good looking and friendly!

Met the entire band Offspring in 1997 in Dallas because I had a friend who worked for a radio station.

Met Steven Jenkins of the band Third Eye Blind in 1997 in Dallas, thanks to the same friend.

Met Robert Petershttp://us.imdb.com/name/nm0676649/ he's an actor and a good friend of one of my best friends.  Very nice person.

Get ready to be rocked by my celeb sightings in DC:

Madeleine Albright (former Secretary of State)- her law firm was located in my office building when I worked at a law firm.  I saw her quite a few times.  Didn't seem like the warmest person in the world, and her hair needed some serious work.  Maybe I am being too harsh for an 80 yr/o lady.

Senator John Warner - (also once married to Elizabeth Taylor, I believe) at the Whole Foods near my house.  Shopping in a suit with an aide, I think, also in a suit, searching for some wine and cheese I think.  It was kind of funny.  He seemed kind of grumpy and rushed.

Chelsea Clinton at a bar called Garrett's in Georgetown, a few years ago.  It's a really small bar so I kept seeing her everytime I went to the bathroom or to get a drink - but I think she thought I was following her.  As I walked past her one time I overheard her say "This bar is really fun" sarcastically to a friend.

Ralph Nader - again, in my old office building.  The Kerry campaign headquarters were there and he was meeting with Kerry.  He looks exactly like Ralph Nader.

John Kerry - also in my old office building.  I was so excited I posted about this one on FH.  My friend and I were going down and the elevator stopped on his floor.  Kerry got on (or should I say, hustled on) with about 4 secret service guys.  He is very tall and rather handsome in person.  He said, "Good afternoon!".  My friend and I were like, "Hello!  Hi!" and suppressing nervous giggles.  He kind of joked around with his SS about something.  Then the SS made us get off first and hustled him off the elevator.  They sure don't mind pushing past you...don't mess with the SS.

some ex-Redskin at a bar in Dewey Beach who was hitting on us, then followed us out to the parking lot and dropped his pants (can't remember the series of events leading up to this, but the evening was bizarre to say the least).

That's all I can think of for right now.  Pretty exciting stuff.   I've got to get out of DC.
