I got a power strip because I needed extra outlet space...on the power strip cord it says "California Proposition 65 warning WARNING: This product contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects and/or reproductive harm."
I thought it was on to be on a power cord so I don't get it. But it creeped me out enough not to plug it in.
It is a warning label similiar to what is posted on cigarettes, prescriptions and other products.
Evidently some of what was used to manufacture the outlet may have cancer causing agents in it. There are lots of things that may remotely cause cancer that we use on a day to day basis, we just aren't aware of it and if we were we would probably be so damned freaked out we'd never leave our houses.
California is obviously one of the states that by law (or proposition#) has to make this public knowledge.
I would just use the outlet and not worry about it, if you want to worry about things like that then also consider the chemicals used in cosmetics and beauty products, chemicals that are used to treat fibers and cloths for clothing, linens or furniture and the seriously scary food additives, water treatments and prescription drug industry!
Life is short already, if you need some extra outlets go for it! If one thing doesn;t get you the next thing will!!!
