Mystic Tan... should I???
Permalink Closed

I'm going to a wedding next weekend, and I'm wearing a pretty bare dress.  Right now, I'm about as white as snow, and I know I'm going to look like a freak if I don't have a little color, especially on my legs.  I could self-tan at home, but I'm thinking about trying Mystic Tan.  BUT, seeing how I'm sooo white right now, I don't want to go and end up looking like Paris Hilton or anything.  I want it to be natural.  Do they offer different levels of "tan" at these booths?

I live in Phoenix, by the way, so a light tan won't look completely off the wall.

I honestly don't find that it is worth the $25/pop in my area (I think that is around the standard price). The tan doesn't last more than 2 days and you have to go more than once to begin with to get a tan that even shows on your skin. Anytime the tan touched water it released this odor I couldn't stand. My roommate and I did it together and we also noticed that our deoderant didn't mix well with the tan solution and it gave off this bad bo smell.

I was also looking at some pics the other night of when I did it and I never noticed it before but it made my skin look a tad orange and dirty. So that kinda pissed me off more the other day looking at my pics.

The tan also doesn't fade evenly. I would have huge splotches on my skin as it faded away.

IMO I'd go with the neutrogena tan in a bottle. Its cheaper and works better.

Other people like it so its up to you.

I agree with lsubatgirl. I used the neutrogena one for my wedding and the tan looked great and waaaaay more natural than anything else I've tried. (BTW, I am also pretty light-skinned) HTH

I agree with the others, I would use the neutrogena.  I've had good results with it.  Just remember to wash your hands frequently while applying.

I'd spend the $25 for the wedding and maybe maintain the tan with a bottle tanner.  I just think it looks better.

I think I'll just self-tan this time.  I use Clarins Self Tanning Milk and really like it.  Although, I think once you open it, they say to use it within 6 months.  I haven't used it since early summer, so I probably need to pitch it, so I guess I'll go get Neutrogena and try that.  Thanks!

Yes, Mystic Tan offers three different levels.  You'd need to go with level 1.  It just gives a little color.  I love Mystic Tan.  I get it done throughout the summer.  I go once a week and use Endless Summer sunless tanner in between to keep the tan looking good.  I get tons of compliments.  The first time I went they warned me that I could streak a little so I was preparred, but I ended up doing just fine.  Whatever choice you make, good luck and have fun!

I did mystic and I loved the results at first, but when it started to wear, I looked dirty. I did the second level and my friend did the first and she streaked really bad. I have heard good things about nuetragena as well, but I am afraid to do it myself. Any tips for applying since I have never done it?
