I am planning a 3-4 day trip up to NYC this summer with my adopted daughter. She will turn 16 and wants to see a show and some other fun things. I see some great r/t tickets to Newark. My main question is should we stay near the airport and take public transportation in or should we come on into the city and settle in somewhere? If we stay in the city -- any recommendations on an area and/or hotel? Thanks for any help!
I can't recommend specific hotels, but I say stay in the city. It will be a lot more expensive, but after a day of walking around and shopping, you'll be too exhausted and won't want to take the 40+ minute bus back to NJ. Keep in mind, NYC in the summer is HOT and HUMID -- if you want to take a break during the day, you can pop into your hotel room if you need to.

Good point - I want it to be as easy as possible. That will be part of the fun for her too, she has never been in a large city before and has only flown 1x which was last year when we went to Florida. Thanks
