I just read this story and I thought I was kind of funny. I watched the SNL when she was on it and felt bad for her when I saw what was happening. Afterwards when she blamed it on her band and everything else you could think of it just made me mad.

I feel really bad for her.  I don't understand why the media is being so hard on her and ignoring all the other phonies out there.  So she's not a grammy worthy singer, who cares.  Giver her a break!

At first I did feel bad for her. I think most people know that singers lip sync there own songs at live preformances-they just don't want to admit to it. If she just would have said- I was having an off day and I didn't feel great so, I needed to lip sync. Most singers do it, so big deal- then I don't think it would have been such an ordeal, but blaming your band is crappy. They are the ones who play her songs and make her look good and then she turns on them. I just thought it seemed kind of classless -for lack of a better word.

Sorry but I don't feel bad for her, the girl has zero talent. So the crowd didn't like her Orange Bowl performance and made it known, she really can't sing irregardless if it's "live or memorex".

Maybe she will take the hint and go away.

i didn't see this performance because i wasn't home, but i both despise and feel sorry for ashlee simpson.  i hate her "i'm a punk--rawrrr" posing, because obviously she has no idea what actual punk is and is only affecting it as a stylistic choice because she thinks it is the "opposite" of her big sister's bubble-gum-princess routine.  what she doesn't realize is that it is just another permutation of the exact same vapidness (vapidity?).

good charlotte is not a punk band, ashlee--there was a culture and a community of punk in the days when you were wearing diapers, and the small, stupid offshoot of that that is currently in vogue among Top 40 radio listeners has nothing to do with it (omg, the anarchy "A" on the drumkit?!?! please, put that thing away if you don't know what it means! apparently she is so dumb that she doesn't even know she is embarrassing herself.).  please don't take this as a dig at good charlotte--i like them and think their music is fun and listenable, but i wouldn't consider myself a hard-core punk simply by virtue of being a fan of bands like theirs.  it's not the same thing.

ok, so here's why i feel sorry for her, in spite of everything i have just said.  i think that it must have been incredibly tough for her to have to live in the shadow of her perfect goody-two-shoes sister, who is (regardless of how you feel about her) incredibly famous and popular the world over.  i actually think that jessica is also pretty talented.  so when svengali-dad decided (or finally relented?) and started pushing ashlee's career, she probably felt that she deserved it and that it was her due--after all, she had spent her whole life in service to jessica's career and fame.  she is obviously just not in the same ballpark in terms of talent and charm as her sister, whether she realizes that or not, and so i do feel sad for her that perhaps she is now on a speeding train that she can't get off.

she is on the cover of this month's allure (???), and the article about her is pretty interesting.  to me, it had a somewhat mocking, almost sarcastic tone.  the quotes they use make ashlee sound like an airhead, and they hint that perhaps the whole SNL/wrong song thing was a publicity stunt (after all, harmless negative publicity is better than no publicity).

i don't feel bad for her at all.  she put herself in the spotlight and should deal with the consequences.  if i were 20 years old and living the way she lives --driving around in a mercedes SUV (and i guess she just BOUGHT her parents' old house in LA), i thing i would be able to deal with a few people badmouthing me.  she deserves no sympathy b/c her life is how she made it and she is doing much better than most 20 yr olds.  deal.

i watched the clip from the rose bowl and i felt bad for her, though not bad enough to find the clip incredibly funny. i think she is just symptomatic of a much larger problem in today's pop music and instead of addressing the larger issue (that a lot of mainstream music today sucks!) people are using her as a scapegoat. obviously she is not the first manufactured artist to hit the scene, but b/c she had a big screw up early in her career everyone is looking at her. the thing is if there were no market for her "crap" then artists like her wouldn't exist, so in many ways i blame the masses. (sorry please don't take this personally, but that's just how i feel.) at the very least these industry svengalis should work to create artists that actually make good pop music instead of just shoving garbage down the buying public's throat.

I have to admit I used to like her i even bought her CD, and watched her show but lately she is annoying me to no end. It seems like fame is getting to her head a little bit.

I don't feel sorry for her even a little.  However, if we're going to bash anyone, it should be her creepy-ass, money-hungry dad.

I don't think she would bother me as much if she just would stop talking about how punk she is. Anti-flag, The Clash, NOFX, Rancid, The Ramones, Dead Kennedys. Those are punk band-Ashlee Simpson- I don't think so.

her dad is super creepy!  Especially when he makes comments about Jessica's sex life.."Now that Jessica is married, she can have sex until she is blue in the face."

he did not really say that!  aaaahhhhh, please tell me he didn't!  well he is creepy, and i know he would say something like that, but seriously, what a weirdo!

did anyone actually see the performance or a clip of it?  i don't think they were necessarily even booing *her* because she's a scapegoat...that song she was singing was TERRIBLE and not just like the normal not so good pop out today, i mean truly awful, almost unlistenable.  oh well...what can you do...

Yup!  I saw a tv clip of him saying that.  It was really disturbing!

Gross!  I also read a quote of him saying how sexy Jessica was no matter what she wore because of her "double D's," and something like "you can't hide those babies!"

In a way I feel sorry for Ashlee because of the same things bumblebee said -- this girl's been in her sister's shadow for so long, was probably pushed into this career, and she is still very young.  But people are being so hard on her now because of her whole "I'm a punk," i.e., "I'm real, I'm rock" attitude, and there she is faking it.  And there are a lot of artists out there faking it too, but not professing the same kind of "authenticity," so they don't get the same negative reaction.  Or get humiliated as publicly either on live TV.  The fact that three different explanations for why she was lip synching didn't do anything to help, especially the one that blamed her band.
