I don't know if this really counts as "fashion," but I didn't know where else to put it. Does anyone else wear nightgowns or am I just a loner? I never thought it was that weird, until an ex boyfriend told me that it reminded him of his grandma because no other woman he knows wears them (and no, I don't wear some horrible stuffy flannel contraptions! I think they're really cute/sexy/etc). I started thinking about it because I found another nightgown that I want today.
Anyway, I'm not going to really change what I wear to bed, but I'm just curious if I'm some sort of early grandma over here

Hated 'em as a kid, refuse to wear 'em as an adult. I "lounge" around the house in yoga-type pants or shorts, and a tank top. I can't stand to sleep in clothes unless it's cold because I hate to be cold when I get up in the morning.
IIRC, you are the one with the lingerie addiction? :) I'm assuming your nightgown preferences are just extensions of that. Go with whatever works for you...andexes' opinions count for zip anyway. :)

I've always hated them because of the way they twist when you sleep. I don't think they are weird by any means. I've seen some really beautiful nightgowns.
When I think of nightgown, I think of what I wore as a kid, like an oversized tee shirt. But I think you may be meaning those satiny strappy ones... I wear them on occasion. How could that remind him of his grandma???
I have a couple but I never wear them. I usually wear really tight/spandex tanks with underwear to sleep in. I don't like anything loose on my body while I'm sleeping. It needs to be super form-fit or I can't deal.
I don't think nightgowns are weird, though. I think they're sexy. If I liked the feel of them more, I would definitely wear them.

Yes. Well, I mean some are shiny and strappy, some are cotton, but none of them are oversized tee-shirts. I don't have these exact ones, but I have some like this:
Nothing over-the-top sexy, but I think they're just pretty and definitely prettier than grandmawear!
I'm glad some more of you wear them, though. I don't think I know -anyone- who wears nightgowns other than my mom. That's just what she put me in when I was little and I never really grew out of it. In college my roommates would tease me, but I never got a bad reaction from boyfriends until the "grandma" comment. Not that I'm too concerned with him personally anymore, I just always hear that voice in the back of my mind every time I buy a new one. I know it's silly. But even when he told me that I tried to reason him out of it with the fact that mine were pretty, and he was having none of it and held his ground.

Interesting. Two nights ago, I pulled out a babydoll nightie that I got from Anthro (shaped like the pic below). I guess the word, "nightgown," is throwing me off a bit. They are fun to wear to bed, are more comfortable than I think they will be, and a refreshing change to the usual yoga pants and tees. Although, I wear them so rarely that DH expects something spectacular when I do.
I don't think they are weird at all. In summer I like to sleep in my vintage slip's but it's too chilly in the winter. I say wear whatever floats your boat

lol!!!! same here. I have a few of the silky kind and I love them and think they're super sexy, but I hate lounging around in them and I don't liek how they twist when i sleep. I'll still pull one out occasionally if its super hot or if I feel like doign something different but I generally sleep in pants and a tank
I love them! They've been my shopping weakness since I started working from home a little over a year ago. I actually having gotten into the habit of calling them "chemise" since "nightgown" does remind me of the floor length flannel jobbies my mom wears. I usually sleep naked, but I wear my chemise around the house or in bed until I'm ready to fall asleep.
Where do you like to shop for them? I usually buy at VS 'cause they have good sales, but my faves are always the more expensive ones from Nordstrom or Antrho. Here are some I have my eye on right now.
Anthro does have beautiful ones, but I like to get this type of nightwear at Victoria's Secret mostly. They have so many to choose from and the prices are good---considering how often I wear them.
those are really pretty, luckylily! I get mine from everywhere. I don't really have a staple place for this at all! I usually can't get them from VS because they fit me goofy

I think VS quality sucks (sorry if I offended anyone). I have a satin robe from them that actually warped somehow and fits funny now. Never again!
I went to Loehmann's/Filene's basement and found ALOT of gorgeous Vera Wang nighties/camis and shorts sets. They are usually combos of satin and silk, so comfortable and well-made yet they're like $20.
I have a few that I've had for years. One is a purple jersey knit from Garnet Hill that I never wear to sleep in because it gets all twisted up but is great for throwing on first thing in the morning to stagger downstairs and get kids ready for school. We sleep in the buff too.
I really love the cute pics posted above.
