OK, so I have been looking for a new skincare regimen (see other post). Over the past few days I remembered how much I loved the Mario Badescu samples they sent me. I really loved the way my skin looked. Especially the enzyme cleanser and the day and night moisturizers. Anyway, so I added it all up, and with shipping, the cleanser, night cream and moisturizer are $70.
I have never, ever spent that much for skincare before. Is it worth it? I realize $70 isn't a lot for some, but it is for me. Basically, it would mean no more shopping until February.
So - do you think it's worth it? I guess I can't decide whether expensive skincare is a gimmick (and I should just stick with $10 Oil of Olay) or whether it's worth blowing my whole budget. Thoughts?

if you really saw a difference in your skin, and that is something that is really important to you, then you should spend the money and get what you really want.
i would probably not spend that much on skin care given my current financial situation, b/c there are a lot of other things i would rather spend my money on. skincare stuff comes after clothes, shoes, and vacation for me, so i wouldn't spend that $$ until i have what i want in the other departments.
its all relative to what's most impt. to you. my friends think i'm crazy for spending $65 to have my hair trimmed every month, but my hair is really impt. to me and having a good haircut makes me feel good, so i spend the money.
for what is worth, my dermatologist told me that sunscreen and eating right/drinking water/not smoking are really the only things that makes a real difference in your skin in the long run. (this was not what i wanted to hear -- i wanted her to throw me a script for some retin-a and a fancy skin care system)
how long would the $70 worth last you -- about a month? you could just buy them and try it for the month, and if the results aren't totally fabulous, don't buy any more.
I sometimes think I am the cheapest person on this forum but when it comes to skin care, I'll spend the money. I think great skin care is something that will benefit you for your entire life. If you find something that really makes a difference, go for it. At least try it once. If you find the set you want doesn't last as long as you'd hope or doesn't do what you want, don't buy it again.
I agree with Grace. While $70 IS a lot, relatively speaking, (at least its not $300 or something), I think nice looking skin is priceless. I have never had perfectly clear skin and I would stop shopping for a month if I could find the product that would give me clear skin. Since you tried this, liked it, and it worked, I think you should do it just this once and see if it makes a difference. Then you'll know if its worth it or not. HTH!
i feel similar to e doli. my rule of thumb when it comes to skincare is to start at the low end and work my way up, and i stopped at kiehl's. skincare is important, but i sometimes feel that companies take advantage of our vanity (for lack of a better word). maybe you could buy some of the products now (like the moisturizers) and purchase the cleansers next month.
I purchased the MB stuff and love it and think it is well worth the price. I got the MB Favorites set for $66 bucks which included the enzyme clenser, cucumber toner, moisturizer and handcream and I think something else but I don't recall at the moment. I also added to my order the hydrolic (sp?) eye cream and control cream and it was $100 with shipping. They sent me a ton of more samples with my order plus the bottles of pretty much all the products are big so I'm sure it will last me at least 3-4 months if not more.
OK, I decided that I'd go with honey's suggestion (T.Y.!!!) and just get one thing at a time. My favorite thing from the samples was the cleanser, so I got that, and I asked them to send me another sample of the moisturizer and night cream so I can be sure. In the meantime, I figure I can't go wrong with Cetaphil. Thanks!

Just a suggestion...I buy a lot of my skin care products on Ebay. I can't recommend a seller because I have a different one I like for every possible product, however I've never had a problem. I have found most things for about 25% of the retail cost.
