I have long, processed hair that is not in amazing shape. (I dye it a lot, but do take good care of it. It's not super healthy, but it doesn't *look* unhealthy.)
Recently, and for the first time ever, I noticed that my hair feels a bit waxy, like it has product built up on it. I don't use a lot of product, but I stopped using straightening balm (I straighten my hair 2-3 times a week), then when that didn't help, bought new shampoo (scalp therapy for some clarifying effect) and then new conditioner and then a new hairbrush. Nothing has helped. I wash my hair 2-3 times in a row when I wash it.
The only time it hasn't felt like this was when I broke down and went to a salon and had them wash my hair for me. Even then, although I didn't put any additional product on my hair, the feeling came back within a few days.
I just called my stylist (I have an appointment with her on Friday) and she said it sounds like maybe my hair has lost porosity, but I did the strand in a bowl of water test and my strands didn't sink in over 10 minutes in the bowl.
Has anyone ever had this problem? I'm sooooooo upset about it.
you poor thing! I've had that problem before, and I switched ALL my products - it sounds like you did too, but maybe the clarifying shampoo you bought was a drugstore brand so it's not really helping? alot of affordable products contain silicone to make hair look shiny and in the long run end up giving you buildup that doesn't want to budge. I used to work for Aveda, and the hair detoxifier is amazing. If I were you I would buy that and maybe switch to some Aveda or other high-end natural shampoo for awhile (there aren't the same additives that will build up, or at least as many) I know it's expensive to buy that stuff, especially if you have already bought something, but the good thing is, they will accept a return if you use it and it doesn't work. There's not a time limit, so you can use it for a week or two and see if you notice a difference. Also they may have it in travel size if you just want to buy some small bottles and see how it works.
Thanks so much for the suggestion, Hermione. The clarifying shampoo I bought is Pureology, I believe, so not cheap, but regardless I don't think it's working. I like the idea of a natural product, and will definitely try the Aveda (I didn't even think of this, since I normally buy my hair stuff at Ulta, and they don't carry it). It's also nice to know they accept returns. Crossing fingers!
