need help decorating around this bedspread

I was strangely attracted to this bedspread, and it was really cheap so I bought it. I really like it but it's so...pink.....and girly. I was thinking of using orange as an accent color to cut down on the femme vibe. Maybe orange for the pillows and/or curtains. Or yellow??

I'm having a really tough time with curtains. Does anyone have ideas?

Right now my room is totally devoid of decorative accents (just the bed, a plain wood dresser, and white venetian blinds). Oh and I have a weird spacey 50s ceiling fixture sort of like this (except it's white/clear)

Oh and I've got wood floors and white walls. Totally blank slate. Help!

It depends on what 'feel' you want for the room - tropical, mod, kitsch, etc.  Here are some options:

Tones down the pink in the bedspread.

Red would be a nice choice, too.

Bamboo Beaded CurtainThis bamboo would add some nice texture and an 'islandy' feel.

These would add a whimsical touch.

These would add a mod look.

Though girly in color, they are simple in form and would add a big punch of color to the room.

HTH!

i like the red that's in the background of the picture with the bed.  i think a rich, pinky red for the walls would be nice.  then i could see the orange sheets you posted.  mabye these pillows along with the ones you posted:

these are from CB2 also.  i'm picturiing the room being really rich and sautrated with color.

or you could go in the completley opposite direction and pick up the blue in the comforter, doing light blue walls and accents but that seems like it would play up on the girlyness more that downplay it which is what i think you want.

Some stripes (sheets or pillow cases) might help to take the edge off the girly factor.  I think you any of the following would look great at as an accent color...yellow/gold, orange (love the toss pillow), red or lt. blue as your accent...I think it just depends on your style.  Where you planning on keeping the walls white or would you paint the walls?  Curtains might be tough...if you walls stay white you will need a color...if you paint your walls then your curtains can stay neutral.  Something else to keep in mind...I don't know if you or anyone you know is handy with a sewing machine...curtains can be made fairly easy from sheets...if you found sheets you liked.

Thanks so much! I am really excited because for the first time in my life I have a bedroom that I can decorate however I want (even though it's teeny!).

I thought about doing something tropical but my kitchen and bathroom already have a slightly kitschy tropical theme. Also, I think part of the reason that I was drawn to the bedspread is because it has a pop Japanese vibe. And that would work better with my weird space age ceiling fixture.

I think I'm going to leave the walls white because it will be more versatile in case I want to change things, plus I have a bunch of paintings by this artist which are really colorful (unlike the one below) so I'll probably put some of them up.

The head of my bed is right in front of the window, so I could achieve a similar color contrast by getting red or orange curtains instead of painting the wall. I can sew, sweatergirl, so maybe I will just look for fabric or sheets that I like.

I was thinking about using stripes too, to contrast with the floral.

Yay! I'm going to work on this over the weekend!

I love that bedspread cc! Where did you get it? And how cheap was it?

Have you thought about cream curtains? Neutral, but warmer than white? I also like the idea of orange but am seeing more a sorbet-orange than a burnt/sienna orange, if that makes any sense at all. I am also possibly seeing a pale green? That could just be me, tho!

Mia, it's from Urban Outfitters and is on sale for $50, which is pretty cheap anyway, but I used that 20% off code from Lucky because I was buying other stuff (the code is luckymag and is good for orders over $100. I think there are some other Urban codes floating around too.). So that was good because there is an additional $10 shipping charge. I'm sure it's not the best quality (I'm a bit worried about it fading) and I'm not crazy about the satin edging, but whatever, it's cool and I won't want it forever.

I'm going to go through my closet and linens later and see what colors work with it!
