WOULD YOU BE ANNOYED??
Permalink Closed

oK HERE'S THE SCOOP, I WEN'T HOME FOR A SHORT BREAK TODAY TO VISIT MY BF AND WE'RE TALKING ABOUT MY PLANS FOR TONIGHT SINCE HE'LL BE WORKING (HE'S A WAITOR) ANYWAY, I MENTION I WILL BE GOING TO THE MALL TO FINISH UP THE LAST OF MY SHOPPING,AND AFEW OTHER ERRANDS AND HE REPLIES THAT WHEN HE GETS HOME HE WANTS TO WATCH A MOVIE AND EAT A NICE HOME COOKED MEAL. FOR SOME REASON THIS REALLY ANNOYED ME THAT HE JUST SEEMED TO EXPECT ME TO COOK FOR ME LIKE THAT. SHOULD I BE ANNOYED? HE THEN WENT ON TO COMPLAIN THAT I NEVER COOKED HIM DINNER, ETC!! YUCK!! I DON'T THINK I COULD BE MARRIED TO ANYONE WHO WOULD JUST EXPECT THINGS LIKE THAT FROM ME. SHOULD I FEEL ANNOYED LIKE THIS?

I would feel annoyed too!  It's one thing for him to ask you if you wouldn't mind cooking tonight b/c he's got to work.  It's an entirely different matter for him to expect you to drop your own plans to cook him a meal!

I love cooking for a man (when I have one, mind) but there's something so off-putting about them *expecting* it. I like to surprise them with it etc., not do it knowing they're going to be sulky if I don't. You should cook him Kraft dinner and hot dogs.

They have mac 'n' cheese that you put in the microwave and its ready in 5 minutes!

But yes, I would too be annoyed! If hes a serious boyfried you should talk to him about
this situation. Cause if you guys plan on marriage, it could be problems.

I would complain right back that he never cooks for you and if he is looking for June Cleaver or Donna Reed he needs to get better at science so he can build a time machine.

I'd be annoyed.  I would probably call him before he gets out work and ask him what kind of take-out he wants for dinner.  I like to be a snot like that sometimes.

Honestly, I don't see anything wrong with it if you both share your duties in the house.  I love cooking for my man and sometimes I'm tired and don't cook for him (he comes home much later than I do), but if he really wants a nice, home cooked meal, I do make it for him, although I'm tired.  Guess I'm just old-fashioned in that sense.....

If my man (let's use our imagination here) told me he wanted a home-cooked dinner, I'd laugh in his face. First, I can't cook. Second, if it was the same situation like you described, I wouldn't be able to believe his gall and I'd think he was kidding. All that said, maybe he really does want a home-cooked meal. And there's nothing wrong with that. Don't you sometimes? However, it's the expecting you to make it for him that's the annoying part. If he wants food, he can get up off his ass and make it himself! Hell, he works at a restaurant, he can bring something home for your tired self. (sore footsies and having to deal with maniac xmas shoppers? madness.) But maybe he just said that because he was grouchy or mad about something else? Maybe he didn't mean anything by it, or at least not what you thought he meant.

Depending on your state of mind, you could suck it up and cook something for him (albeit nothing long or fancy) or if you want to provoke him a little more you could cook mac 'n cheese. Or maybe you could get take out and put some candles out and try to talk to him about how much it bothered you (what he said). Candles always soothe even the worst argument!

Wow, hes lucky he has you Karina. Thats so cool that you are like that, I wish I could be more like that with my husband.
I grew up with both my parents working full time and my mom would stay where she worked at during the weekdays and only be home on the weekends. So my dad was Mr. Mom and cooked for my 2 brothers and me and would call us to the table when dinner was ready. So I was spoiled and I married someone similar to my dad. When my husbands off he cooks and when he works I cook. I dont know, I'm just glad it works for us

I guess it all depends on the way he asked for it, if it was in a really nice way, and soft tone, I wouldn't be annoyed, But if he was demanding it, I'd be REALLY upset and annoyed.

My BF love when i cook for him which I hardly do because i don't know how to cook that much....

After I wrote that post I decided to call him up and I explained to him that if he had just asked nicely if I could make dinner rather than expect it, I woould be happy to oblige him. I told him it frustrated me and he apologized.  I ended up getting all my errands done pretty quicky, so I picked up a roast chicken from the grocery store and made some mashed potatos and we both ended up happy! Thanks for all your insight girls!

Wow.  I guess I'd be annoyed if it was demanded but otherwise I guess I wouldn't mind.  I don't mind cooking if its something easy and its much healthier than take out.

A friend of mine's parents actually  have some sort of arrangement worked out where the wife makes him dinner every day and she gets something in return but I can't remember what it is exactly and its just something that has worked for them since the day they got married and they are happy with the arrangement.  I'll have to see if I can get the exact details because its interesting to me and especially with this topic.

that made me laugh out loud, mia.

i love cooking for a man too, but there is something annoying about the boyfriend complaining that you never cook for him.  it sounds like he was just in a bad mood and didn't realize how his comments would sound.
