Hey everyone. I had a few minutes before we hit downtown Reykjavik for the day. I have a meeting with a client in about 2 hours, so I thought I would get online and check my e-mail and stuff, addict that I am, and lo and behold, here I am.
If my punctuation and post is a bit weird, blame it on this keyboard. They actually have this button: æææ on here. Kind of neat. þþþþ that one is weird too. and this one ðððððððð
Anyway, Iceland is amazing. Everyone is freaking nice. The countryis very beautiful. It was snowing when we landed, and it was cool coming in like that. We landed at about 8:30 am and the sun still hadn´t risen yet. It didn´t rise until about 10:30 in the morning, and it got dark about 4:00 here.
We went swimming in the Blue Lagoon last night, which is a geothermal springs here outside of the Reykjavik. It was amazing to be swimming by lava formations and rocks and outside while it was below freezing. Super relaxing. We were there for about two hours. Then we went to have a great dinner at a nice Italian place. We are going to try some Icleandic cuisine for lunch today, and then we are headed to ctach our flight to London.
I haven´t got to see much of the countryside, just what we passed by from the airport and to the Lagoon, but it is beautiful with the snow on the ground.
I spent New Year's in Reykjavik in 2000. It was fantastic! They have more fireworks per capita than any other city. And, yes, the people are super friendly. Only problem was that a lot of the restaurants, clubs and shops were closed between Christmas and the New Year so there wasn't much to do except walk around town and hang out at the hotel.
I was amazed by the weather. In my first 24 hours there it rained, sleeted, snowed, got really sunny, hailed and then got really windy. It was VERY cold but really beautiful. Of course, we met a lot of Americans there and had a good time hanging out with them. I recommend a trip or a stop over if you’re headed to other parts of Europe. Iceland Air has various stop over packages and the Blue Lagoon isn’t far from the airport.
Here are some pics. Sorry there aren't too many. When I travel, I usually end up taking weird pics and pics of the people I am with versus ones of the place I am at because I usually have already been there. I also have to face the sad fact that I am an impatient photographer, and I need to slow down and actually work at getting a nice picture. Ah, well. I have other ones that have my sis and BIL on there, but I don't want to post them because I don't know if they want their pics online.
At the Blue Lagoon. DH says to tell you his teeth are not really that yellow. He is now horrified about that. It was hard to take pics there because of the fog and snow, but we are actually outside in below freezing weather here.
A lake in the middle of Reykjavik. Even though it looks early in the morning, it is about 10:30 am here.
Us being cheesy tourists in front of the same lake

Baker Street Tube Stop. I thought the Sherlock Holmes on the tiles were cute:
Oh god look at London all foggy and wintery. The Thames...oh dear, those pictures make me London-sick. And the tube! Agh! I can't believe you went on the Eye. I would faint on that thing. I get vertigo at those heights...
Iceland looks like some kind of fairytale land. I've heard from people who've been that the whole country is like that...that it seems kind of ethereal and magical.
It looks like you guys had a great time...!
