I'm going to do it and I was just wondering if you're happy with the program.  Thanks!

I haven't done it, but I *love* manitees.  Just seeing them on tv makes me so sad that so few of them are left.  They look so peaceful and gentle.

indikitten-too funny!  Tati, manantees are very endangered.  There's only about 3,000 left in America.  They die because their nature is to float towards the top of the water and boaters hit them.  If they don't die from that, they are usually really hurt.  They are vegetarians and so slow moving with no natural enemies besides man so it really makes me mad that these animals could be gone forever (simply because of humans).  It's only $25 to adopt one and you get a picture, bio, and 4 letters a year of updates on your manatee.

Can someone post more information about this?  I may be interested in participating.  I always feel a bit nervous about organizations like this because I'm afraid that I am being ripped off somehow.

SOunds like a really good way to help save the animals.

Sorry, late to the thread...

Years ago I lived in FLA and adopted a manatee, I still have her and now her children and grandchildren.

It is an excellant program and one that I wish everyone who fears the loss of endangered species would participate in.

I actually get photos of my extended family (they are tagged) and get down to FLA to really see them once a year.

I also have adopted a young male for my daughter as a Christmas gift this year. She has been aware of my love of them and has traveled with us to see them yearly and now she has her own.

I have always loved them, I lived in coastal FLA for years and they were always there, then they weren't. I often saw injured cows and their young and sadly at times seen them shun their young because they were unable to feed them. (They are mammals)

I love how the adoption program monitors them, they are very much a homing species. I hope many of you choose to support the cause.
