Good Pomade?
Permalink Closed

I haven't used pomade in the longest time but I just got my hair cut and my stylist put some kind of pomade or cream in my hair after flat ironing it. (I didnt ask what kind but even if I did im sure it would have cost a lot). It made my hair shiny, and more piece-y. Anyone know of some products that will do this??

I really like Aveda Brilliant, which is also an anti-humectant. It is great for summer when your hair can be difficult if it's wavy/curly. A little goes a long way, though - too much and your hair gets greasy. I use it for shine and controlling frizz.

Another I like that is very light and works well in colder weather, just for a piecy but natural look, is Redken water wax. Totally non greasy, fresh scent, good for the piecey thing without being sticky.

My hairstylist got me started on American Crew Fiber when he cut my hair shaggy and layered awhile ago. While it's actually a men's product, it works great on my hair and gives it that piece-y look. It also last forever since you don't need a lot, only about a dime size amount.

I've tried a kazillion (technical term, no?) of the waxes on my flat-ironed hair and my absolute favorite is bumble and bumble sumu wax. It keeps the fly aways in place (if there are any) and gets a great piecy look, especially if you have bangs. And it smells great, too. It keeps my hair from looking edgy when I straighten it, instead of childish.

I've also used the Aveda Light Elements stuff (I forget the exact name of the product) and it works well also, but I prefer the texture and smell of the b&b.

I've used both the bumble and bumble pomade that blubirdie referred to as well as the aveda humectant pomade dc mentioned. I like both very much. The great thing about the aveda pomade though is that it easily washes out. Which is a big issue for me because my hair texture tends to hold on to things (I have natural African-American hair)

I'd say, if your hair is very thin use the bumble and bumble and if you hair is on the thicker side use the Aveda..

that's my two cents..

I have used the B&B, American Crew and the Aveda and I liked the B&B the best- Although the American Crew had a really nice scent to it. I have very oily hair and hte B&B didn't make it worse and it held pretty well too.
