New Year's Eve poll and question

I know it's been discussed before over at FH, but I forget.  Anyway, what are everyone's plans for NYE, as it's drawing near?  Do you love it, hate it, or consider it just another day?

It's just another day.  My fiance will probably be out of town and I don't have any friends in the city we live in - I don't know if I'll even stay up until midnight!

when i was growing up, my family and i always did the same thing every year on NYE - we would each get to pick our favorite food item that was a "special treat" (for some reason, for most of my youth, my selection was one of those Wispride cheese logs with the nuts on the outside - sigh), would get some champagne, and would spend the entire evening until midnight watching home movies and slides of my brother and i as we were growing up. NYE was always considered a "family night," so even when my bro and i reached junior high/high school, we always turned down NYE party invites to spend the night in with our parents.

but now i am not usually able to spend NYE with my family, so for the past 4 years my fiance and i have been trying to come up with a new traidition that works for us. our first year in NYC we got all dolled up and ate and a swanky restaurant and then went out to a bar with friends. but that wasn't much fun for us. then three years ago we decided to go ice skating - disaster. so for the past two years we have stayed in and done a sort of modification of what i used to do with my parents. we buy good champagne/great cheese (no more cheese logs), i make all of our favorite finger foods, and we watch cheesy movies that we love all night.

so i'll be staying in. that's the tradition that has devloped for me throughout my life. sometimes i feel weird that we don't go out to celebrate, but i actually prefer staying in to celebrate with people that i love.

I'm not much of a new years eve person.  Growing up we use to shoot fireworks and eat a mini meal at midnight - good luck hot dogs for the new year (Polish Tradition I'm told).  Now I'm lucky if I see the ball drop on tv.

One year I did the whole getting dressed up and going to a meal with the bf but it was ok not great.  I just don't see nye as a special day.

We go out if there is a band we want to see playing somewhere or a party we want to go to.  I try not to make a too big of a deal about it, and I'm actually fine with staying at home if there isn't anything interesting going on.  I'd rather cuddle up w/ hubby and my critters than suffer through a party I'm not enjoying.

This year DH's parents will be in town for New Years, we will probably make a nice dinner then hang out.  We can see the Seattle fireworks from our apartment.

I usually spend it in some way w/ my SO but this year I don't have one! :( Last year I went to my sister's friend's winter lodge in Vermont (more like a mansion on top of a mountain...) there were 15 couples total. She invited me again and will not take no for an answer...but I will be the only onesome :(

i hate the pressure that NYE brings.  it seems like everyone is searching for the perfect party and they never find it.

what i love about new year's is the chance to dress up.

this year we are going to a "gourmet" party.    each person brings a dish and bottle of wine or two to compliment it.  there is always phenomenal food when they have these parties, so i'm looking forward to that.

i'm going to a party.  and usually that's the way it is every year.  someone ends up having a party.  some are more fun than others but all in all, it's usually a fun time.  what i am against is spending a lot of $$ on the night, because that makes it seem like you HAVE to have a great time in order to justify the expense.  like last year, a bunch of girlfriends came to visit me in vegas and we went to the club 'rain' at the palms and then ghost bar (also at the palms) and i was like we better have a connection and we did so we didn't have to pay anything.  it was a fun time but i bet i wouldn't have had nearly as good of a time i'd have had to shell out money for it.  i know, kinda cheapie of me but i just think i could spend that on shoes or something!

i'm going to a party, but in my defense it's one of the few times a year (other than weddings) where i have an excuse to dress up and go out.  though i think it helps that i know the people throwing the party and know i'll have fun. if it were just some random event i probably wouldn't bother.

I think that the main reason that I looooove NYE is that I met my bf on NYE 4 years ago and we had our first kiss (it was just going to be a peck on the cheek, but he insisted on a peck on the mouth - he was drunk and very hilarious) at midnight.  He was my first NYE kiss ever.  This will be our 5th NYE together and I am really looking forward to it.  He has a promotions company on the side and they are promoting a big hotel party that night.  We aren't sure if we are going to go yet, but it will be free so it doesn't matter.  We are definitely getting dressed up and have a dinner rez at our favorite Asian restaurant.

Of course, the fact that he doesn't want to make major plans is getting me worked up that he might pop the question and doesn't want me to get suspicious.  If he does I will be so happy.  If he doesn't I'll still be happy because I will be with him.

Ugh, I hate the pressure to go out and have some fantastic time for NY.  It sucks because you are CONVINCED everyone out there is having a better time that you are, but they're not.

You guys aren't, are you?

farrah, you are too cute.

and no escrime, we're not having a better time than you!

this year i'm going to a friend's house because she's having a party and my bf has to work new year's day (ugh!)... he's pretending to be worried about who i'll be getting my new year's kiss from, which is kind of cute...

new year's, in my humble opinion, is extremely overrated.  normally the bf and i just stay home and get silly together, but if he has to be in bed early then i'm going out!

my first NYE kiss was last year.. w/ my current SO. he's not much of a 'planner' so he decided last minute what he wants to do and it drives me crazy. so, i don't really care what we do as long as this is my second NYE kiss ever (i'm a cheez today) we might stay in and just cook, or we'll go out to some party. i hate that pressure to have the 'best nye ever' in nyc.

We generally host a house party/dinner. All my g-friends and I dress up but the men don't. These are friends I don't get to see over Christmas so we hang out all night, drink champagne and catch up.

Meanwhile, my 13 yr. old daughter usually has a few friends of her's sleep over so that adds to the fun.

i usually procrastinate until the very last second, because no one ever seems to make any plans or want to commit to what they are going to do on that night.  most years, i end up going to a party, or if no one is having one i will host one.  i actually prefer the hosting, because then everyone comes to me.  i like the idea of going out of town, but it's hard to coordinate people to go on a trip that time of year.

my childhood tradition was similar to smash's: my family used to go skiing for NY weekend with another family or two, so we always spent NYE bundled up in some rented cabin, with a fire and hot chocolate and watching movies.  i really liked that, even though we would ski so hard that we would usually fall asleep before midnight.

My family has the best New Years tradition ever.  My parents went to graduate school in Boston and made some really good friends that they would have New Years Eve with every year.  Then even after they moved to Seattle, they would go back out every once in a while.  Starting about 6th grade, we started going back every year.  We spend the weekend at a family friend's house with 3 other families and just hang out for the weekend.  It's so fun, and I'm never upset I'm not out getting drunk or something stupid with friends from home.

My fingers are crossed for you! You have a good attitude. I was kind of grumpy last year b/c my (now) husband and I had been talking about getting married (together 8 years at that point ). Our anniversary came around...no ring. Then my birthday...no ring. I hated the waiting game. Finally, I got over it and decided not to worry. THEN, of course, we got engaged.

I will be at a club in san diego with my friends for NYE.  I'm excited because I don't get to see my friends as often since moving back to the LA area....but my most meaningful NYE was the one I spent with my ex-bf (well we were together at the time).  It was nice to have someone to kiss at midnight.  Well I had someone to kiss at midnight last year but I barely knew him hehe.  Anyhow, I'm just happy that I'll be out dancing with my girls this year

New Year's Eve is my birthday, so I always feel pressure to do something really fun when all I really want to do is stay home and watch the ball go down sitting on the couch with my hubby.  Sounds boring, but i am the biggest homebody.
