New Year's Resolutions
Permalink Closed

anyone want to post theirs? it might be good to have a thread like this that we all can refer back to when our new year motivation starts waning around february...

i don't normally make new year's resolutions. instead i make a list of things that i hope to do or accomplish in the year to come. the list includes both big and small things, reachable goals and fantasy reminders to keep me in check about things i want for my life someday. anyway, so i'm not really the best person to start this thread because my list rarely includes things like "exercise" or "save money" or things that people normally make as resolutions, but i really like the idea of resolutions and i like to hear what people make as theirs, so that's why i started the thread.

here are just a few things from my list for 2005 that are kind of resolution-y...

- achieve a perfect sun salutation

- learn to crochet

- visit touristy NYC landmarks (not sure how much longer i'll live here and i've always said that i'll do these things before i leave the city)

- re-design my business website (it's long overdue!)

so, what is everyone resolving to do in 2005?

here are mine (unfortunately some are carry overs from last year )

1. get my license.  yes i am 25 years old and do not have a license. it's shameful

2.take the gmat so i can stop working in a crummy job and go back to school

3.buy a sewing machine and launch a website.  i've wanted to do this forever, but i've been dragging my feet. this is my year.

4.finish furnishing my apt.

i have others, but what i think i'm going to do this year is break them do into monthly resolutions. i'm hoping that will help me keep my focus.

Take more pictures of my daughter and family.

I've never been a real picture person.  You'd think being a mom would change that.  Don't get me wrong I love to look at them.  I just rarely take them and don't even own a camera.  My husband is very good and has a really expensive camera and equipment, but I have far more occasions to catch a good photo op with my daughter.  In the end those photos will be real treasures, to pass on and look back at.

Here are some things I have been planning on doing after the crazy holidays are over...it's more like my One Year Kick Start My Life Plan

1. start to focus on bettering myself and stop dwelling on the past (this starts immediately, tonight I *try to* cut off the ex...)

2. (after the new year) get a waitressing job

3. get out of debt

4. save $1,000 a month for at least 5 months

5. (late April) start looking for NYC apartments

6. interview for PR/Advertising or non-profit jobs in NYC

7. Get off my ass and out of my Mom's and live and work in NYC!

Hmm...

1. Lose my remaining 15 pounds that I never bothered to get rid of this year - I lost half of what I wanted to for this year's resolution

2. Save more money

3. Quit buying crap

4. Clean out my room so that I can walk in it - I have a path between the door and the bed because when I lived on campus in college I did #3 way too much.

5. Donate more stuff to charity so I don't have it in my room. This would help accomplish the quit being selfish problem I have.

6. Learn to be more patient

7. Learn to not be as selfish and self-centered which I tend to be.

Good post.  I think it is nice to set goals for the year rather than resolutions.

Here's what I want to do in the next year:

1.  Take at least 2 levels of French classes.

2.  Continue to advance my knitting skills.

3.  Really kick ass at work.

4.  On the exerciser front - Do Pilates more regularly and increase my running distance

I never really make New Year's Resolutions. This year, I've made list of goals that I would like to accomplish in the coming year.

*really throw myself into the jewelry design business
*continue paying down my debt
*take the GMAT's and at least one class toward my MBA
*lay the preliminary groundwork for opening my boutique
*get out of mall hell (even if it is just an administrative assistant position--something 9-5)

Hmmm... I've got quite a few things I want to do...

1. Expand my food palette(sp?) - Try different foods that I automatically say no to but haven't tried i.e. lamb, etc.  I usually end up getting the same thing on the menu when I go to a restaurant - so - I'm going to be more adventurous w/ food.

2. Travel more..nothing really specific

3. Learn to do some more crafts - sew, mod podge lamps, pottery, etc.

4. Expand my business

5. Spend more time w/ my nephews.  I haven't spent that much quality time w/ them and only see them a few times a year.

Have more but got to go...

NylaBelle, why couldn't you work in the corporate offices of a retail establishment and become a Buyer or something?  It seems that retail experience is looked upon favorably when hiring for a Buyer position?  Are there any stores who have their corporate office in your area?

Years ago I decided to not make anymore resolutions and I have kept to it but like NylaBelle I try to set some goals for the year. I also try to keep them vague so I don't end up disappointing myself if I don't acheive them.

  • Get my drivers license (you are not the only one Honey!!!!)

  • Spen time at the gym, instead of spending away the money. I haven't gone since October.

  • Start training to run the San Antonio marathon in November

  • Save money

  • Finish projects, instead of leaving them half-way done

  • Be more social and not so shy, I can't even go into my local Starbucks, because I am so afraid of what people may think of me.
