Surgery Went Well UPDATE!
Permalink Closed

I'm really sorry everyone! I feel like I'm always just posting kitty problems. It's been a hard time for me lately....

So my new little kitten, whose name I still haven't decided on really, has to have surgery tomorrow. His poor little cornea ruptured and now he has to have his eye removed. My vet said that it's good that it's coming out now and he will adjust to it well. She also said that if it wasn't coming out now.. it would probaby come out down the line. I guess I just feel miserable because I just seem to only be having trouble with cats.

I know this sounds really selfish, but I guess when I had to put Dot down after her battle with cancer... all I wanted was a little healthy kitten. Now that he has to have his eye removed is just making me really upset and I guess also resurfacing all these emotions I had when Dot was sick.

I know that the little guy will bounce back ok, but I guess I just feel a little bit frustrated. Thanks for letting me vent! :) Maybe my little kitten will be an eye-patch kitty... maybe a pirate?

UPDATE:
The little guy did really well and didn't even have to stay over-night. I felt upset all day yesterday... but today, when I went to pick him up, I didn't even notice the eye was gone. (Does that sound weird?). I guess I thought, (AND I KNOW THIS SOUNDS HORRIBLE), that it would be disfigured or something... but he was still cute and now that he's home... he's still the same kitty.

He is trying very hard to get out of his cone. I really love him and I feel so happy he is in my life... even with only one eye :)

Thanks everyone for your support. Now I have to think of a cute pirate name.... Someone suggested Matey or Captain Salty? I don't know!

Maybe you should name him Hook !  Sorry this is happening to you - I know it feels like you're plagued with stuff like this.  Try to look at it this way - you must have been meant to have Dot and this new little kitty.  They could have gone to a home where they would have been put down or given away when they got sick, but they ended up with you - someone who cares enough to keep them as healthy as they can be.  Try to hang in there - it's worth it for your new family member!

things happen for a reason and I think you got this kitty cause this was going to happen. Not any owner would keep it or really love it after it having just one eye and I'm sure you will.
My dogs name is Pirate, cute name for the one eyed kitty.
Or Billy? One eyed Billy.

Oh dot!  I'm really sorry to hear about your kitty's problems.  I know this sounds odd, but it is just an eye, and your kitty will be healthy and happy without it.  I do believe that sometimes things happen for a reason, and I'd bet that this kitty came to you because you were capable of taking care it and loving it the way it needs to be loved.

{{{{hugs to you and kitty}}}}

That's so sad about the little kitty's eye! But look at it this way, your kitty will adjust and you will be the only one of the two of you who knows he's missing out. He'll never know. He'll think he's completely normal, which is all that matters, right? And I agree with the other girls that maybe you were meant to have this kitty because you know what it means to love and take care of a kitty that needs it. You should name him Jack Sparrow after Johnny Depp's character in Pirates of the Carribean - so cute!

Good luck with your beautiful kitty.

aww, poor kitty!  but he's lucky to have a caring owner like you.  i think you should totally give him a pirate name.  even with one eye, he can still be a healthy and normal cat.  he'll just be a little more special.  i'm sorry you have to go through this, but it's good that they caught it now and I'm sure you'll both go on to enjoy your lives together.

I'm sorry about your new kitty. But he will be ok. It's always hard to see somthing wrong with your pets. Since you don't have a name for him yet I think you should name him some kind of pirate name (I like Hook). It will just make it part of his personality rather than a disability.

Definitely, you have to name him Captain Jack Sparrow:).  It will be okay dot.  Your little kitty has a very long healthy life ahead of him.  Good luck with the surgery!

I'm so sorry Dot, from one cat lover to another I really feel for you. I have been reluctant to get another kitty after I lost my Felix in August.

Anyway, he'll be fine and give you years of love and friendship but its not selfish to want him to healthy and happy after what you just went through.

Aw, poor little kitty!!! Sorry to hear about your kitty's issues, but I'm sure he'll bounce back! Like blubirde said, you should name him Jack Sparrow (Sparrow, for short) after the sexiest pirate of them all!!!

I agree totally. The condition isn't life-threatening, right? My poor Sully (aka Giant Ears Dog) had 6 toes on one of his feet (supposed to have 4!) and had to have major surgery when we got him. It was actually kind of a good way for us to bond, weird as that sounds.
