I just got an e-mail from a guy I knew in high school that he's engaged.  I had a huge crush on him back then, and in my heart of hearts always believed we'd end up together.  biggrin  But alas, it's not to be.  And in reality, his psycho professional cycling training and philosophy major babble would drive me insane.  I think I'm sad mostly because it was the last remnant of a girlhood crush.

awww, that's big news. I almost had a heart attack when my first boyfriend told me he was planning to propose to his girlfriend a few months ago. They actually broke up before he did, and I feel horrible for saying this but part of me was relieved that they did. I don't want to get back together with him or anything, but for some reason it's hard to let go of people who used to mean a lot to you, even if they don't now!

Awww, I feel ya.  Even though I've been w/my SO for 6 years and plan to marry him, it was still weird to me when I heard 2 of my ex's got married last year.  One was a really serious relationship too, that he ended because he basically couldn't commit.  I guess it was just weird that he got married before me.

I think your post title "sigh" sums it up perfectly. I'm 29 (ouch *sigh* again) and I'm always shocked when I hear that people I knew back when are getting married or gasp! having kids. I have the same shock and awe feelings I had when I heard a girl was pregnant when I was 18. I know I should realize we've all grown up and grown-up life decisions happen but it still shocks me. I'm right there with you.

I frankly feel it would have been right for many of my exes to commit to a life of celibacy after having had me. I revel in the thought that at least two of them have not found anyone in 10+ years. (I totally keep tabs.) Then again, there are a few who are married and I'm stoked for them...I think those must be the ones I cared least about.

It bummed me out majorly when I found out a college BF was engaged. And then a mutual friend sent pictures of him and his bride...and she looks a LOT like me. I was not at all "his type" based on who he dated before me, so it was especially obvious that she's a mini-me. Heh.

Perhaps I dodged a bullet. He hasn't really kept his looks...he's seriously balding and looks like he hasn't seen the inside of a gym since 1995.

But back to YOU, Gingembre1 - feel the freedom! This news releases you emotionally, so you can now find ultimate happiness with Jake Gyllenhaal or Sir Richard Branson or whoever your dream man is.

Just do not, under any circumstances, find happiness with Johnny Depp or John Krasinski. I've got dibs!wink

Hmm...I like the idea of Sir Richard Branson. Hot older man, genius, lots of interesting business ventures, and fleet of luxurious planes. I feel a new girlhood crush coming on...

Bluebirde, I think you summed it up quite succintly. This announcement came on the heels of my childhood best friend announcing she and her husband are now trying for a baby (they've been married about 6 months). I'm only slightly less shocked by these announcements today than I would have been at 18.

Wait, John Krasinski is MY true love! wink.gif

I saw him once in a bar and oh how my heart pounded. Of course I was too shy to say hello -- and, um, also living with my fiance.
