I wanted to save a picture I found online, but it is in a .gif format. The only two options I get when I right click on the picture are to save as gif(original format) or bitmap, but both show up empty when I save them to my computer.
I'm using windows xp, internet explorer if this makes a difference? I'm used to just saving jpeg or converting bitmaps into jpeg via photoshop or paint.
It is probably a little late for an answer. The fact that it was a .gif file probably had nothing to do with why the image file was empty. It is more likely that the image file you were trying to copy had been altered so that your attempt to copy it failed.
This is a method that is used to keep people from stealing images posted on the WEB. They probably would not have minded you having it for personal use.. but don't want competitors to use them on their site- or sell them as their own.
Note: It is also possible for someone to configure the image file so that instead of the image you thought you had copied ......you get
You can do a print screen, though, and get the photo that way. there should be a "PrtSc" button on your keyboard (for mine I have to hold down my Function key and press my Insert key). Press that Print Screen button. You may see a little flash or something (but maybe not). Then go into an imaging editing program (like photoshop or even just Paint) and go to Edit>Paste. Voila! now just crop it down to the image that you want.
ETA: Whoops, I didn't realize how long ago you asked this question. I'll still leave my answer up, for posterity
