I'm turning 29 next month and I've been noticing a lot more grey hairs pop up (probably pluck one or two a day). I've got dark hair (that I do not dye, currently) and I got my first grey hair while I was in my last year of undergrad, however, they have always been few and far between so I just plucked them. I'm sure I'm the only one who notices them but I'm not sure all this plucking is good for my hair.
My question is, at what point do you stop plucking and start dyeing? I'm thinking highlights might disguise them for now. I'm just thinking, if I start now, I'll be dying my hair for an unforseeable amount of time.....and going grey is not an option for me at this point.
Maybe you could work your way up to a full double-process down the road as opposed to jumping right in. Is there, perhaps, a semi-permanent rinse you could have done to tone things down and cover the grays? Just thinkin of alternatives to having to get hardcore color done all the time when you've been going natural.
Be careful with the highlights thing. It's a good idea, but it has to be done well. I know someone who had medium brown hair that started some significant graying around her face. the hi-lites she had done were too light and her hair started to look straw (which I know is hard to avoid with gray, wiry hair).
I'd dye it. I actualy dye my hair the same color it is fairlyoften just for the littl e"pick up" that it gives- it always looks brighter, shinier, and healthier even though itsd the same color.
I'd dye it. I'm 27 and I have way more grey than I should - I've been dying to cover grey since I was 22 (I got my first when I was 16 and my mom was about 75% grey at 35 - ew!) If you've never dyed before though, I don't know that you should start with highlights - maybe you could start with a single color very close to your natural, and then highlight later after you get used to upkeep, etc.
I, too, got my first gray at 16, and have been dyeing my hair since my late twenties (about ten years, now). I used to get highlights but now I've gone to what trisarahtops recommends - a single process which is my natural color, only better - I always get a glossing treatment included with it, so my hair is more shiny and healthier looking after it's dyed.
My natural color is so dark that to do highlights they just used straight bleach, or there would have been no noticeable difference. And the bleach was pretty damaging. I changed from highlights to enhancing my natural color about a year ago, and got many, many favorable comments on the switch - people couldn't tell *what* was different, but they just thought I looked better.

Thanks for the advice girls! I think I'm going to wait it out a little bit....I'm not ready to start dyeing (I'm definitely less than 30% grey (prob 1%). It will be plucking for at least the next few months.
