wallpaper borders?

along with Drew's post...

the wall at the top of our stairwell going into the seconds florr hallway is two toned (mostly a really great dark red, with a yeloow for the top two feet or so) and has this hideous border in between (geese and baskets and hats- you know the type).

Anyway, we really like the red, and with our high ceilings and the fact that its in the stairwell it would be nearly impossible to paint, so we'd really like to just change the border to something less tacky.

So, I guess the point of this is, where can I find a border that isn't country/Americana? Everything I've found is awful. My decorating style is more "modern traditional" if that makes sense (I guess like the less risky stuff in Domino).

ETA- any other suggestions on how to deal with this are welcome too. We're not exactly thrilled with putting a different border up anyway, but its all we could come up with.

What about a molding?

I have to agree with you - most borders I've seen are really terrible!

I did some searches on this site Home Portfolio and found a few that I think are fairly plain and traditional.  They are all by a company called Zoffany and they come in multiple colors.

There's a company called Bradury & Bradbury which makes historical patterned (like William Morris and Art Deco) wallpapers, borders and then larger friezes, which might work for you.  Most of them come in at least 3 color options.
