cable or satellite tv?
Permalink Closed

Do you use cable or a satellite proider for your TV? Who do you use? Are you happy with them?

Right now I have digital cable from Time Warner and I'm mostly happy with it, but our new place is completely wired for satellite so I'm debating the switch. I'm really really tempted by the idea of getting the East coast as well as the West coast feeds for a number of channels.

Satellite. I like it. I'm so used to east coast time that I'd never want to have cable. Also, cable is pretty expensive around here, and I don't really like Comcast.

Satellite- Dish Network. I like it. We've also used Direct TV and that was fine too. I think satellite is a lot cheaper than cable. Plus ours came with free DVR and four receivers!

satellite. I love getting things on East Coast time, and the guides/previews are easier to use. We have DirecTV. It's a bit more expensive for us, but only because we can't package it with our Internet. A few years ago, we tried going back to cable and we couldn't stand it.

HB,

I have DirecTV too (love it, so that's my vote, Lilykind!).  HB, how do you get the East Coast feeds?  When we moved here, we tried to get them, but it was poo-pooed because the local stations would not allow it.  Do you pay extra?

sorry, I should have said that we get East Coast feeds for cable channels. We're still on PST for network shows, unfortunately. But my friend used to get EST channels -- you can pay for them on DirecTV. They are somewhere in the 300-channels, and they are named something like ABCE, CBSE, stuff like that.

DirecTV. It's a love-hate relationship, but it's better than cable, and TIme-Warner is a vile company, so there's no way I'd give them my money.

We love the TiVo service, but the DirecTV branded receivers aren't as good as our old DVR box, and unfortunately there's no choice with DirecTV anymore. You have to use their box. (I'm a techno-dork so this is a problem for me.)

We also have satellite - DISH Network, and I love it, I just wish they would come down on their price a little. Joe HAD Heartland Cable before, snf they SUCKED! We've had DISH since '99 or '00.

I don't have either - I usually just watch TV shows on http://www.sidereel.com and http://www.tv-links.co.uk

There are definite drawbacks (only certain shows, you have to wait for the episodes to load sometimes, sometimes certain episodes are missing from the database or take a few weeks after they air to show up) but most of the things I watch are on there. I guess I could hook it up to my TV if I wanted a bigger picture, but I usually just hunker down at my laptop and watch

ETA: I know this isn't what you really asked, but I guess I'm just saying that if your satellite is wonky, you don't necessarily have to switch to cable

DH is a serious football fan, so we need DirecTV to get NFL Sunday Ticket.  I now have become a serious fan as well.
