Do any of you have a favorite houseplant variety? Have a suggestion for a more colorful leafed one?
I have found myself needing more houseplants in my home, and I got to wondering how many each of you has in your most used room.
I have 14 in my family room, but I don't feel it's overwhelming. 5 are on a large shelf (it's 12 feet long, and the plants are in small containers, probably 4" pots)with my antique colored glass collection, one floor plant, one orchid on the entry table, 2 on the TV, and 3 on one end table and 2 on the other (also 4" pot sized). The end table ones are small, and in clusters next to the table lamps.
I have african violets (6) and philodendrons (3). The phils are easier to grow than the violets IMO - if you want to keep them small you can grow them in a container/vase of water, or if you want them to get big you can grow them in soil. It's also easy to make more of them once you have one, because a plucked leaf roots quickly on it's own without much help.

I have two house plants. One is a bamboo plant which has been very easy to grow. The other is a african violet. They can be very hard to grow, and seem to be picky about what kind of light exposure they get.

I have all succulents, 3 in kitchen and 4 in living room. I have a couple varieties of jade, cacti and an aloe plant. They're all super easy to grow. I just bought a mint and lavendar plant, which I will bring inside when Summer ends.
I have one I got for mother's day last year. Not sure what it is though. When I got it, it had these neat yellow things on them but fell off. No new ones grew back ever since, strange. We used to have quite a few different houseplants we inherited from my grandmother, but my mom killed them off except for the aloe plant my dad rescued and put it in the garage to nurse back to health.
We have an acacia, two jade plants, african violets, and a coffee plant. I find them all very easy to care for (meaning BF is main plant caregiver) I would like to get some bigger plants because we now have a very large living room with huge south facing windows. I have a thing about African violets. Whenever I see one at a store I think it 'needs me'.
