Jewelry: chunky costume or delicate feminine??
Permalink Closed

I feel like I gravitate toward very bold funky pieces like Kenneth Jay Lane - I adore anything with animals or animal prints.  These were particularly trendy over the past year but now I feel like I'm seeing a resurgence of more delicate feminine pieces.....

I'm curious what people think....is the costume jewelry over or can they co-exist with delicate/feminine?   What is your favorite between the two looks???

Costume jewelry will *never* be over. It's been around just as long (if not longer) than fine jewelry. I love jewelry of all kinds and I wear whatever I want, whenever I want. I mix all the time fine/costume/bridge jewelry all the time and I don't worry about what's "in".  :)

Ditto to atlgirl. I mix the two together and wear each sep. For me it depends what mood I am in and what I'm wearing.

ITA...although my favorite pieces are statement necklaces which are inherently chunkier.

ditto. if i wear chunkier jewelry i usually limit it to one chunky piece at a time. or i'll mix (ex. chunky ring with delicate earrings). with more delicate pieces i feel i can get away with more. today i have on a really delicate necklace (my new one from the weekday shopping post) plus a simple pair of stud earrings and my watch.

i like both it just depends on my mood and my outfit.

funny you mention kenneth jay lane b/c i just bought one of his large cocktail rings today! so obviously, you know what i gravitate towards.

however, it really depends on the outfit for me. if i'm wearing something a little more conservative, i like to funk it up with cool & bold jewelry.

I've always preferred to wear delicate pieces, but I might wear something chunky if I found something I really liked.

I veer toward delicate, but it depends on my outfit.  I think they are both pretty timeless - as long as you like it, you'll wear it a lot!

Depends on what I wear. When I go out, I love fun, chunky jewelry!

I love both! Really depends on my mood, some days when I want to feel simple I wear the smaller fine jewlery I own, other days when I am feeling funky or bold I wear large statment peices of jewelry.

I'm with Atlgirl and the others. I like costume and I love fine jewelry too. It depends on the look I'm going for. If I'm wearing a rather bland outfit, I'll use shoes and jewelry to make the outfit pop, but if I'm wearing a funkier outfit, sometimes I just want the jewelry to add a hint of sparkle, but not compete. It just depends.

I wear both, depending on the occasion and the outfit. I tend to like really loud clothes, so my jewelry tends to be softer to balance it all out.

I go through phases.

I recently dug out a box of costume jewelry that belonged to my great-grandmother, and I've been wearing it to work as often as I can work it into an outfit.

feminine
I like chunky costume jewelry, but it doesn't look good on me.  Especially necklaces.

I do a mix. Not so much chunky jewelry or delicate, but sort of in between. I don't really have any fine jewelry, just a few pieces. I'm not into the bling-bling-diamond look, so I tend to buy/make sterling silver and vermeil/goldfill pieces.

I have had my eye on some chunky gold bracelets! I saw some really cute ones in More magazine, my favorite being the chanel cuff of course, but I can't bring myself to get it for costume jewelry! But do you guys think chunky gold jewlery is cute? I was thinking of wearing all white with gold shoes and gold jewelry to a party this weekend. Sound cute? or too much?

I favor the delicate femine pieces, but adore chunky when the mood strikes. Neither go out of style IMO

i like both, but gravitate to chunkier pieces.  since i wear a lot of solids and basics to work, i tend to add a lively piece for a pop.
