I haven't been reading much lately. I can't even remember the last book I read. Actually, I recently reread this because I had leant it to someone and when they started wanting to talk about it, I couldn't remember many details:
I also read this fairly recently. I was pretty disappointed because she is one of my favorite authors, and this didn't grab me at all:
I am not currently reading anything, but this is next on my list. I'm waiting for it to be released.
i haven't had very much time for reading lately, unfortunately.

halleybird- i absolutely love the classics! do you have any recs? just finished: recommended by a friend. memoirs of paris in the 20's. i loved it. still reading: i love the authors style of writing, and the mystical tone of the novel. Takes place in the south american jungles. And i'm STILL working on (started a year and a half ago- haven't read in months): i do like it a lot, but it started to get slow and i didn't keep on trucking. maybe i'll finish this weekend, or start it over.
and read a few chapters of these (started months ago): une si longue lettre is in french, so its near impossible for me to read it. but i read it in high school and LOVED it. the other two are also good, but i was not disciplined enough and didn't finish them.
one problem i have is that instead of finishing a new book when it get somewhat slow, i reread an old book that i know i love. I've read The Outsiders, The Great Gatsby, Gift from the Sea, and I Captured the Castle at least 3 times each.
I am a huge fan of the classics, but I wanted something REALLY light to read and picked this up:
Lynnie- My favorite book is Great Gatsby. A book you should check out is Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier. I always recommend it and GG when someone is looking for a good classic.

Not sure what the next book will be. I was given a recomendation from someone that sounded so good, and I have been trying to remember the authors name for weeks!
What's next? I don't know. I still need to unpack all my books from when we moved last summer. I had just purchased some before we moved. Didn't get a chance to read them.
It's interesting how some of you are revisiting or introducing yourself to some classics. I have been throwing around the idea of doing the same thing. Good luck!
Last books: His Dark Materials trilogy. I liked the first two books a lot but the third one was slow in parts and a lot of the anti-religion stuff started to wear on me a bit.
Currently reading: and
The Plague was slow-going for me and then I misplaced it and picked up Persuasion instead.
Next book:
or if I can deal with lugging around a hardcover on my upcoming trip.
halleybird- i absolutely love the classics! do you have any recs?
I have been really into Gothic, Victorian and Gothic revivals lately. Recently I have read and liked DuMarier's Rebecca (as HeatherLynn suggested), Wilkie Collins' The Woman in White (love!), Hardy's Tess of the D'Urbervilles. Old classics I always go back to are Gone With the Wind, Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre. I also love Hemingway's A Farewell to Arms not so much for the story, but because the writing is so absolutely perfect. I love Gatsbytoo, of course.
PS - I have picked up I Capture the Castle almost every time I go to the bookstore, but it seemed sort of kiddie, so I never bought it. Can you convince me it's worth getting?
I forgot to mention I also read this lately. It was cool in sort of a weird, creepy way. Or maybe creepy in a cool way? I am not sure how I feel about it, actually.

cc - Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell is great! Definitely take it along. It's like a cross between a biography / a non-fic history book (except it's fiction but it doesn't read like it) / and a magic (fantasy?) novel. I've never read anything like it. It really was a great, great book.
halleybird - read I Capture the Castle. It's worth it, especially if it's on sale. I don't think it's kiddie at all, although it's not terribly complicated so younger people can pick it up easily. It won't make you contemplate on life or anything but it's a great period, romantic novel. I'm not a romance type person (unless you count Jane Austen), but I think you'll like it, based on the fact that we've read and enjoyed similar books. Nothing tough but definitely worth the read.

I just had a very long semester full of Literature and Poetry greats. The list is too long to go through though.
After finishing Emma by Jane Austen (which I started before the semester began) I was able to bang out a sweet little chick lit book in two days: Miss Understanding by Stephanie Lessing
I just picked up the Count of Monte Cristo (great minds think alike, huh Halleybird:)!) and The Time Traveler's Wife
I am hopeful that I will finish them before my new Harry Potter book arrives (I can not wait for that one). Lastly, I would like to read another classic this summer. I'm still deciding between The Picture of Dorian Gray and The Jungle.
