What can I do to make my friend feel better?
Permalink Closed

So a really good girlfriend of mine broke up with her boyfriend of 7 years. She was convinced they were going to get married...waited for him for 2 years to graduate from his MBA program and on the day he graduates they broke up. She is absolutely devasted and I want to be there for her but I can't physically be there because she lives a bit far from me. Anyway I wanted some suggestions on what I could do to make her feel better...spa package? send her away??.maybe arrange a trip with the girlfriends??

I need help please! Thanks :)

Wow thats awful! I would send her some flowers (doesnt every girl love flowers?) with a heartfelt note, and then perhaps plan a girls getaway weekend.

You're such a considerate friend -- I can imagine that a girls getaway or spa treatment would help her feel better in the tough circumstances.

How about a gift certificate to one of her favorite stores? Shopping therapy makes everything better.

I also like the idea of flowers or the spa for now and then definitely a girls weekend.

Having friends around always help.  A heartfelt card or letter until you can plan a girls weekend, just to let her cry on your shoulder.  Phone calls to say hello, and hear your voice, know you care.

If you have the funds, how bout a trainer session? It's a great time to focus on herself. A spac package would be equally good. I think a trip to visit or a girls' weekend would also be super nice.

Or maybe volunteer to talk to her on the phone when she goes the grocery store. (For me, going to the grocery store alone - when I used to always go with an ex - was the most terrifying bit of breaking up. Weird, I know.)

That's awesome. You are a great friend.

When my best friend left her asshole husband I sent her a care package with fun novels (he always berated her whenever she read something light), a nice tote for her knitting (he thought this hobby was something only a simple-minded person would enjoy doing), as well as some makeup and girly things (also looked down upon by him).
