HELP! I am actually bored to tears at my current job. At least once a week I cry on my way in to work. However, when interviewing, the recruiter gives me a funny look when I tell them that I am too bored at my job to continue. I follow up with the lack of creativity and lack of job satisfaction, but this explanation clearly isn't what they want to hear. I struggle when writing my cover letters too.
How can I express in a positive and hire-me kind of way that I'm bored and need to get out before my brain enters a vegatative state?
I just went through the same thing with my job - being literally bored to tears. When I interviewed for a new job I said I was looking for "new challenges" and I wanted to "apply my skills in a different setting" and I really wanted to "learn something new using those skills." Maybe it's not the most professional way to put "please help me, my brain is slush!" but I start my new job next Monday. Good luck!!

I'm going through this right now. If it wasn't for the internet, i would probably DIE of boredom at my job.
I am planning to give notice soon and am just going to say, "I don't feel challenged by the job and I really want to learn new things and grow, and I don't feel like those opportunities are here."
I too am going through this. I don't really have much advice, because I myself am trying to figure out what I want to do. I want something new, but I don't see a solution yet. Totally sucks, because I want to fix it now.
Anyway, wherever you apply just focus on saying how enthusiastic you are about being a potential employee with them. Also what Rica suggested is also good. Best of luck, I hope you find your way, as I hope I find my own!
I feel like this, too. Although, it's not really boredom, it's more restlessness because I know that there is no room for advancement and the work just keeps piling up.
How I word is that I'm looking to advance professionally to the next level in my career and I'm ready to apply the skills I've acquired from my current job to a new job in a new setting in a company with room for growth/advancement. I'm sure that's eliminated me as a candidate for some of the smaller companies that I've applied/interviewed with because there isn't a lot of room for advancement in some of those companies either. But I feel that I need to be honest about my career ambitions in order to find the right job for me. I won't be happy stuck in another job like the one I'm in.
Definately something about "finding new challenges that will allow you to grow professionally."
Once you get into the interview you can pull actual examples from the job posting to explain to the interviewer what challenges interested you enough to apply. This will also allow you to talk about your skills and how you can apply them to the new job.
By the time the interviewer is done with you, they should have already decided to give you the position :) Good Luck!!
